Drive, Chip & Putt / Championship of the WORLD

The Championship of the World was started as a mid-season break from the stress of serious competition.  It was a chance for us to play a quick Executive Course and share some camaraderie.

Over the last couple of years, I have been asked to “add” to the COTW.

Since Pine Knoll is already at Fenway Golf, this was an easy lift.  I give to you, the BJG, “Drive, Chip and Putt Competition.

Fenway Golf opens at 9 a.m.  To give me time to set up, we will start at 9:15.  Fenway Golf address is 112 Allen St, East Longmeadow, MA.

Groups

Group One – Adam, EJ, & Magic Mike

Group Two – Joe A, Matt, Rey & James

Group Three – Iron Mike, Stephen, Rob & Joe

Long Drive Competition: We will start at the far-left Driving Range, where we will have our launch monitor set up.  You will get 3 chances (total), and the longest drive will be recorded and scores awarded

Putting Competition:  What better way to have a Putting Competition than to complete the Fenway Mini Golf Course?   

From the Driving Range, you will move to the Mini Golf Course with your group.  You will use Fenway’s putter and golf ball.

Lost balls will still cost you 2 strokes, and unplayable balls will be one stroke. 

Obstacle Relief: If your ball is resting directly against a rail, wall, or obstacle, you are allowed to move the ball one clubhead length away from the barrier without taking a penalty. 

All putts must be finished. 

Scorecards will be submitted to EJ.

Chipping Competition: We will use the First Hole at Pine Knoll for the Chipping Competition.  After hitting your chip from the tee box, you will measure from your ball to the pin.  You record that distance on a card and submit it to EJ when you finish the round.

We will tally all 3 events and declare our Drive, Chip & Putt Champion.  15 Points for 1^st Place and 1 Point for Last Place.

The price of the Mini Golf Courses is $11 for Adults and $8 for Seniors.

CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD

Here we are, six out of eleven rounds of our regular season have been completed.

Now it's time to take a little breather, have a little fun, and find out who the Champion of the World will be for 2026.

When my brother, Chris, and I first started playing golf, we played a lot at Pine Knoll. I was tired of getting my ass kicked each time, so I suggested that the first 17 holes were only practice. If you wanted to win, you had to win the 18th hole. That is how the "Championship of the World" started.

 On Sunday, June 14th, 2026, we will be playing for the Championship of the World at the Pine Knoll (Par 3 Course) in East Longmeadow, MA.

Fenway Golf's address is 112 Allen St, East Longmeadow, MA. Pine Knoll is actually on Porter Rd. If you are coming down the hill on Allen St, you will see Fenway Golf on your left (Driving Range, Mini Golf Course, and the main building. Turn left at the stop sign (Porter Road), and then Pine Knoll will be the next left.

 We will tally the score from all 18 holes to figure out the winner by score (trophy), but if you want to be the "Champion of the WORLD", you are going to need to win that last hole alone and be the last golfer standing. Depending on how many people are behind us, we will replay the 18th hole up to 5 times before we move to a Playoff (depending on how many people are behind us)

Let's say four people are tied with a score of Par (3) on the 18th hole. Those four people will return to the 18th tee box and try again. We will continue this process until we have a winner or have attempted it 5 times.

All Broken Joe Golf rules apply, with the additional rule being that everyone will play from inside the Pine Knoll tee boxes.

Your ball must be in the tee box. You can put the ball on the tee or the artificial turf. You can even stand outside the tee box, but the ball must be in the tee box.

The “Championship of the World” is worth a total of 240 Points. 30 Points for 1st Place and 2 Points for Last Place.

The lowest score will win the Trophy and receive an additional point. The winner of the 18th hole will be our 2026 Champion of the WORLD (Belt) and will receive an additional 2 points.

The cost is $18.00, plus an additional $3.00 fee for a pull cart.

ChatGPT and I have decided to use handicaps this year, especially after the way Adam whooped our asses last year.  Handicaps are 25% of our regular handicaps.

The first group should be at Pine Knoll around 10:15, after they have completed the DRIVE & PUTT COMPETITION. We will then have about an hour of social time. We should have everything wrapped up around 2pm.

I will have water available on the course, and refreshments, including drinks and chips, will be served after the event.

Since Adam is our current Champion of the World, he will lead us off the first tee.

Group Two – Joe A, Matt, Rey & James

Group Three – Iron Mike, Stephen, Rob & Joe

Closest to the PIN is sponsored by BJG and will be on the 95-yard, 11th Hole.  Group One will bring the BJG Equipment, and Group Three will bring it back to Adam.

 Weather:  Party Sunny. Chance of PM Showers. Low 60F & High of 89F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 MPH.

 Dustin, Joe T, Joe V & JT are out of the competition this week, so there will be plenty of FREE Points.
