Once again, we had some trouble getting a Golf Course, but Chicopee Country Club was the right call for our 2nd Major.

It was supposed to be a partly sunny day, but it was just cloudy and cool with a constant breeze.  At least, it wasn’t supposed to rain until later.

Chicopee Country Club is a beautiful and well-maintained golf course with a lot of dog-legs and tight fairways.  It can also be a tough and long golf course, but the carts are worth the price of admission.

Rey leads us off the tee box as the other groups look on, as our 2nd major is underway.

Front Nine Scores:

1st Place:  JT – 37 (44)

2nd Place:  Rey – 38 (48)

2nd Place:  Adam – 38 (41)

2nd Place:  Rob – 38 (47)

2nd Place:  Joe V – 38 (41)

6th Place:  Rachelle – 40 (51)

6th Place:  Mike J – 40 (45)

8Th Place:  Matt – 41 (48)

9th Place:  Alex – 42 (59)

10th Place:  Joe T – 44 (56)

10th Place:  James – 44 (51)

10th Place:  Stephen – 44 (55)

13th Place:  Joe – 45 (57)

14th Place:  Eric – 47 (55)

JT takes the front nine lead, but a big group is sitting in the top seven spots, hoping to take that spot from him.  Only 10 strokes are separating 1st and 14th place.

There are many tie scores, meaning anything can happen on the back nine.

Even with the free points, Joe and Eric will need to play much better golf if they hope to score some decent points.

Joe V, Mike J, and Joe T each manage a birdie.

The easiest hole was the Par 4, 9th Hole, which played at just over half a stroke over Par.

The hardest hole was the Par 4, 5th hole, which played almost two strokes over Par.

As a group, we shot a 41 (50).

Back Nine Scores

1st Place:  Joe T – 30 (43)

2nd Place:  Rey – 33 (43)

2nd Place:  Joe – 33 (45)

4th Place:  JT – 34 (42)

5th Place:  Rachelle – 35 (46)

5th Place:  James – 35 (43)

7th Place:  Adam – 37 (41)

7th Place:  Alex – 37 (54)

7th Place:  Stephen – 37 (48)

10th Place:  Rob – 38 (48)

11th Place:  Joe V – 41 (45)

11th Place:  Mike J – 41 (47)

13th Place:  Eric – 42 (50)

14th Place:  Matt – 48 (55)

Joe T makes a big move on the back nine.  Joe abandons hundreds of dollars of golf lessons and tries to keep the ball in front of him.  Rey and JT continue to play well and stay in the top four.

Again, we have many tie scores, with Matt bringing up the rear this time.

Chicopee Country Club would be even more stingy on the back nine, with only JT and Adam scoring a birdie.

The easiest hole was the Par 5, 15th Hole, which played at just over half a stroke over Par.

The hardest hole was the Par 4, 13th hole, which played almost two strokes over Par.

As a group, we shot a 37 (46) on the back and a 78 (96) final score.

4th Place:  Adam – 75 (82)

11th Place:  Mike J – 81 (92)

13th Place:  Eric – 89 (105)

14th Place:  Matt – 89 (103)

Yes, we have a tie for first place.  Of course, everyone has already put away their golf bags, so I go into the Pro Shop to see if I can borrow a Putter and a Ball.

It takes the gentleman a few minutes to find what he is looking for.  He finally brought me a putter that has seen better days, at least 7 years ago, and has been propping a door open since then.  The golf ball looked like it was about the same age as the putter and spent most of its time on the driving range, but what are you going to do…  There are no more days of John Daley coin flips.

We move to the practice green, where I set up a 15-foot, downhill putt that goes from left to right across the green.  JT, as the lower BJG handicap golfer, goes first with Rey, who has his back turned so he cannot see the line.

JT hits a beautiful putt, stopping about a half an inch to the left of the flag.   All Rey can do is laugh, knowing he must hit the stick to win.  Rey makes a gallant putt, but no cigar for Rey this time.  JT has his first win, and it’s a Major.  I think JT tried to buy that putter.

Congratulations to JT.

This was week five out of 11 weeks of the regular season.  As a reminder, the top four will get a first-round bye, 5 through 12 will have a wild-card round as the first round of the BJG Fed Cup Playoffs, and the last four will move directly to the Legends of Tomorrow / Losers of Today.

Next on the schedule is The Pretenders on June 1st, 2025.  Joe T and I are currently working on the golf course and the tee times.

Respectfully,
