So far, everything was going according to plan.

On Sunday, I ran over to Veterans Golf Course before heading to my grandson's birthday party.

I met up with Stephen and James, and as expected, there was a frost delay.

I dropped off the trophy and medals and headed out.

On my way out, I saw Iron Mike and Magic Mike in the parking lot and wished them good luck.

So far, so good.

At approximately 4:30 PM, Magic Mike sent me some photos. He mentioned that he had to leave, so he wasn't sure who had won the tiebreaker.

Tiebreaker? That's interesting.

At 6:05 PM, I missed a text and a phone call from Rey because my wife and I were busy binge-watching The Diplomat.

I called Rey back at 6:15 PM, and he informed me that he and Matt were still at Veterans.

I found out that the frost delay had ended around 11:00 AM, and the teams finally teed off around 11:30.

He went on to explain that his team had bogeyed the 18th hole, resulting in a TIE. Both Teams were 5 Under Par.

As stated in the rules, the tiebreaker would be determined by comparing the scorecards using the handicap holes.

After reviewing the scorecards, the winner was Team Matt.

But wait, there's more.

Apparently, someone suggested that they should have a Putt Off, as we had done in previous rounds.

Apparently, both captains agreed, and the teams headed to the putting green.

This time, Team Rey won the Putt Off!

Now I'm confused.

Yes, I have lots of questions, but I'm not going to get them answered today.

At the end of the day, I wasn't there, and I am not going to second guess the Team Captains.

I may not completely understand how we got there, but I respect the fact that both Captains made a decision that they felt needed to be made.

And with that, I went back to watching The Diplomat.

CONGRATULATIONS TO TEAM REY!

Rey, Iron Mike, James, and JT — Your 2026 BJG Rider Cup Champions!

Congratulations also to Team Matt for a great performance and for making this one of the closest Rider Cup competitions we've had.

While the tiebreaker may have caused some confusion, there is something much more important worth recognizing.

These eight golfers showed up on a cold October morning, waited through a lengthy frost delay, and competed until the very end.

They could have complained about the delay, called it a day, or simply gone home. Instead, they stayed, played their rounds, and continued competing well into the afternoon.

And when the match ended in a tie, both captains worked together to find a (better?) way to determine a winner.

That says a lot about the people who make up Broken Joe Golf.

Commitment — Showing up, being patient, and seeing the event through to the end.

Competition — Two teams battling through 18 holes, with the outcome coming down to the very last hole.

Camaraderie — Two captains and six golfers working together, respecting one another, and enjoying the game regardless of the outcome.

That's what BJG has always been about.

There will always be winners and losers, and occasionally there will be some confusion along the way. But what matters most is the friendships, the memories, and the willingness to come back and do it all again.

Congratulations to Team Rey, Team Matt, and everyone who made the 2026 BJG Rider Cup a memorable event.

COMMITMENT. COMPETITION. CAMARADERIE.

That's Broken Joe Golf.

I may not have gotten scorecards or a photo of the winners, but I did receive photos from Magic Mike and then from James at 9pm.

Next on the schedule is our final event of 2026, The Winter Classic Championship on Nov. 1st, 2026, which is also Daylight Savings Time. I'm hoping there isn't another Frost Delay.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe
