The "B" Group Story Dan, Rock, Leon and Matt all teed off as the B Group for our second Major this year, the Freedom Cup.

1st and 2nd hole - After the first 2 holes, Dan had a 1 shot lead on Leon, and a 2 stroke lead on Rock and Matt. (It wouldn't stay that close for very long) 3rd hole- After a bogey by Dan, double by Rock and triple by Matt, Leon somehow channelled his inner Matt and put up a 12 on this hole. Leon was not looking too thrilled and I knew to keep my distance from Uncle Leon. 4th hole- Leon completely redeems himself on a scary looking par 3 by hitting a beauty of a tee shot and 2 putting for the par he was looking for. Dan with a solid bogey and somehow, someway, Matt again hits the ball like a blind 6 year old girl to shoot an 8! Not to be outdone, Rock comes out firing with a 9 on this short but sketchy par 3. If you don't take advantage of the par 3's, well... you're in for a long round. 5th and 6th holes- Not much good happened for any golfer on these next 2 holes with Dan going 8-6; Leon going 6-7, Rock going 8-10 and Matt going 6-6. 7th and 8th holes- This is where things got weird/sad/frustrating/awful/pitiful...Well you get the picture... On 7, Leon doubled, Dan tripled, and Rock and Matt shot 4 over (SUPRISE!!) Things got heated on the 8th, after Rock and Matt absolutely shit the bed with their tee-shots. They struggled MIGHTILY to try to regroup. If there is such a thing as golf-gods, well they certainly weren't here with Rock and Matt on this hole. After chunking what seems like 500 shots, Matt and Rock finally get on the green and sink their putts. It's not a good feeling to keep having Leon and Dan wait for us to figure it out. Matt shot a depressing 15, while after a heated argument and re-counting strokes, Leon was ready to crack skulls with his pitching wedge because of the arguing, Rock claims a 13, which after words were said, stuck. **Side note...While Matt was on the fairway on this hole, about 150 yards from the tee-box, Dave from the A group decided to tee-off and almost killed Matt with his drive. Stomping his ball 3/4 of the way down into the fair-way and having Dan run it over seemed like a good enough punishment. 9th hole- On this tricky 460 yard par 5, Dan, Leon and Matt all shot 2 over par, while Rock comes out with a second straight 13. Rock is not too thrilled and is seen asking god to strike him down. Dan had an amazing 2nd shot off the fairway, a blind 3-wood shot that was crushed dead nuts down the fairway. Dan is really starting to turn it on... After 9, Dan has a 56, Leon a 62, Matt a 72 and Rock an 82. Not capitalizing on the Par 3s and stupid O.B. shots really hurt the latter 3. Dan missed a few putts that would have put him flirting with 50. After the front 9, everyone takes a deep breathe and knows we ALL need to shoot better on the back to have a chance at winning the tourney. 10th hole- Dan and Matt go shot for shot and miss Par putts, to end with Bogeys. Leon misses a couple tricky sloping putts to end with a double. Rock finishes 4 over after losing his tee shot but making a very nice second shot off the tee. 11th, 12th and 13th holes- No real surprising action on these 3 holes as Dan shoots 6-6-7 Leon 6-6-9 Matt 8-4-6 and Rock 8-5-6 14th hole- A relatively short 320 yard par 4, ended up eating everyone up as mis-shots and bad chipping around the green were to blame for Dan's triple bogey and the rests double bogeys After the 14th hole, Dan has a 30, Leon has a 34, Rock has a 33 and Matt a 28. Matt is finally putting together a good string of holes, and Dan is crushing his driver and second shots. 15th and 16th holes- Dan is really turning his game on, in the home stretch, with a 5-6. A chip by Leon going over the green and coming to rest against a rock wall forced him to take a drop, and it added up as Leon shot a 9 on that hole, and a 6 on the next. Rock shoots a 8-9 and Matt a 6-10, which ruined his back 9, as he was surprisingly hitting the ball very well for a change. 17th and 18th holes- Dan continues on a tear and he goes 5-5, Leon 5-8, Matt 7-8 and Rock, goes 6-5. On the 18th, Rock hit his best drive of the day, playing the fairway perfect with a great second shot that lands on the green. Way to save the best for last. On the back 9, Dan shot an awesome 51, Leon a 62, Rock a 61 and Matt a 59. After all was said and done: Dan finishes with a very solid 107. Dan was hitting the ball extremely well this week.
Leon shoots a 124. Leon's chipping was night and day compared to last week. Very solid striking and he wasn't leaving anything short around the greens.
Matt a 131. Good holes and bad holes, the model of inconsistency. Can't hit a tee shot to save his life.
Rock a 143. Saved his best for last. Also inconsistent hitting, led to both he and Matts awful scores. After getting together with the A group, we find out Dan got called up to the big leagues! He certainly played like he belonged there on Sunday! The rest of us down in the minors certainly wish he doesn't forget where he came from,...and maybe he can throw us all an autographed golf ball or 2..
