2nd Major 2.jpg

This is our 2nd Major and it was played at Southampton County Club. This was a good choice because we only played this course once before and that was last year. This should not give anyone an unfair advantage. Thanks to Leon for setting it up and getting us a discount.

A Group, Front 9:

1st and 2nd hole – Dave scores a bogey and a par, Joe has 2 pars, Chris has a par and a double bogey and Jake has a triple bogey and bogey. After 2 holes Joe is up by one followed by Dave, Chris and Jake.

3rd hole – Trouble starts. Dave and Chris scores a double bogey, Joe shoots an 8 and Jake’s driver goes to crap and he gets a 13. Not a record high score but it will leave a mark. Scores are still close with Dave up by one over Joe and Chris. Jake is down by 10.

Holes 4, 5, & 6 - Dave runs three consecutive pars, Joe has 3 bogeys, Chris has a bogey, triple bogey and a par. Jake gets a bogey, a double bogey and a par. Dave, true to form, is starting to pull away. After 6 holes Dave is up by 4 over Joe, 5 over Chris and 13 over Jake.

7th and 8th holes – Dave and Joe shoot a bogey while Chris gets a triple and Jake gets a double bogey. On the 8th hole Dave shoots a bogey while the rest of us score a double bogey. Dave is now up 5 on Joe, 8 on Chris and 15 on Jake.

9th Hole – Dave and Joe get par and Chris and Jake get a bogey. At least we finished the front nine strong. At the turn Dave has a 41, Joe has a 46, Chris has a 50 and Jake has a 57. With the handicaps Dave has a 31.5, Joe has a 33.5, Chris has a 37 and Jake has a 46. It seems Joe came to play.

10th Hole – Dave gets a bogey, Joe has a double bogey, and Jake gets a par. Jake looks like he is ready to make a comeback. Chris gets a 7 on the par 3. His tee shot leaves a thick long divot as if he used a shovel and the ball does not go very far. Chris immediately walks back to the cart. Jake, understands the need for golf etiquette, especially so close to the pro shop. He replaces the divot but he has to use both hands.

11th hole – Dave and Chris shoot a triple bogey while Joe and Jake do a little better with double bogeys. Dave is up by 5 over Joe, 12 over Chris and 14 over Jake

Hole 12 & 13 – Dave gets a par and a bogey, Joe and Chris have 2 double bogeys and Jake shoots a bogey and a double bogey. Dave must have sensed Joe wheels coming off because Joe is now down by 8. Chris is down by 15 and Jake is down by 16.

14th hole – Dave gets his par, Joe gets a triple bogey, Chris gets a double bogey and Jake gets a bogey. Jake has whittled down Chris’s 7 stroke lead at the turn and they are now tied. Dave is up by 11 over Joe and 17 over Chris and Jake. Dave is showing us that he is the better golfer, at least for today. This is now a race for second place.

15th hole – And the wheels fall off… Joe and Chris get a 10 (6 over par), Dave gets a bogey and Jake has a par. Jake is now tied with Joe at 87.

16th Hole – Dave gets a double bogey, Joe and Jake make bogey and Chris shoots a triple bogey. Jake and Joe are still tied.

17th Hole – Dave makes par, Chris makes par, Jake makes par… Joe misses his putt and makes bogey. Jake is up by one over Joe.

18th Hole – Joe lands his drive in the best location but cannot capitalize on it and make a double bogey. Chris and Dave also make double bogey. Jake makes bogey to complete the comeback beating Joe by 2 and Chris by 9.

Jake shoots a 44 on the back which is 2 strokes better than Dave (46). Joe finishes the back with a 57 and Chris has a 60.

Final score – Dave final score is 87, Jake has a 101, Joe has a 103 and Chris has a 110.

Dave showed us why he is a two time Winter Classic Champion as well as the Father’s Day Cup Champion. He beat the other 3 “A” team members by an average 17.6 strokes in this second major of the year. Dave has now added another trophy to his 2105 season. Congratulations on a job well done.

Jake too should be congratulated for his “never say die” attitude. After scoring a 13 on the 3rd hole he came back to finish 2nd in score. Great Job Mountain Man.

Of course on the 2nd hole we did find out what the Mountain Man’s kryptonite is… a bee.

Someone said a few days ago that “if you want to win then you better play better”. Truer words have never been spoken.

Matt will be the guest blogger this week. He will be sharing his story of the "B" group but I must make a comment about the "B" group. Dan played an excellent game shooting a 107. That is two strokes less than last week and he came in 2nd place with the handicap scores. In fact, Dan tied Jake and Joe for total weekly points (12). Good job Dan.

There will be the trophy presentation at Chris’s house on Thursday. I hope everyone will come and show Dave the respect his deserves for winning another Major.

It also looks like there may be a split group this weekend. According to Rock’s text he has set up 2 tee times in NH for Saturday. We can talk more about that on Thursday night.
