This week we had a little bit of everything.
Rock started out the week playing on Monday at Agawam Golf Course with Dave. Rock finished with a 110 which is not really that bad. Rock only had 4 or 5 blow up holes. Other than that it was Bogey or Double Bogey golf. On the 14th hole he even got a par. His blow up holes were the 6th hole where he got a 10, the 2 back nine par 5s where he got 9s, the 13th hole par 3 where he got a 7 and the 5th hole par 3 where he got a triple bogey. Rock could be the sleeper at the Winter Classic Championship.
On Thursday, Joe and Dave played at Veterans. We started on the back side first because the ladies league was getting ready to play. Dave has a birdie, and 5 pars for a score of 40. On the front side Dave doesn’t play bad but he definitely did not play like he did on the back. On the 5th hole Dave gets a 7 because he shoots over the green and into the woods. After the drop, he hits another crazy shot and now he is back on the other side of the green. If his ball flight wasn’t so smooth I would have thought I was playing with Leon. In the end, he can only muster one par and finishes with a 47 on the front and a total of 87.
On Saturday, Chris, Joe and Leon play at Veterans. Chris also invited Kurt to play. On the front nine Kurt is playing well and finishes with 5 pars and a score of 43. At almost every hole Kurt was looking at birdie or par. If you don’t believe me, just ask Kurt’s riding partner, Leon. Kurt gave him the play by play.
Leon had a rough start with a triple and quadruple bogey but then settled down until he got a 12 on the 9th hole. On the 9th hole, Leon’s shot, after dropping a ball because he went in the water, over shot the green. Fortunately someone found his ball in the parking lot and returned it to him.
Chris was having an ok front. His driver was on but he was having some trouble with ever other club in his bag, The wheels start to wobble on the 6th hole (par4) where he gets a quadruple bogey because his tee shot lands on the 7th hole green. On the 7th hole his tee shot goes a little right but is lost in the Bermuda Triangle trees and he gets a triple bogey. Chris regains his composer on the 8th hole with a bogey. On the 9th hole Chris has a nice tee shot and 2nd shot. He is in a good position to score well. That is until he hit the ball… “FORE”. Chris’s 3rd shot land on the first tee box. It doesn’t get any prettier and he finshes the hole with another quadruple bogey for a score of 54.
Joe has a good front 9. His driver is working pretty good but unlike the day before, his putter is ice cold. His only real trouble comes on the 6th hole where he loses a ball in the Bermuda Triangle trees. You know it should be there but it just isn’t there. Joe gets a triple and finishes the front with a 47.
On the back 9, Kirk is playing bogey golf except for the Par 5, 14th hole where he gets a rare triple bogey. He must have still been in shock because he gets a double bogey on the 15th hole. Kirk finishes the back with 47 and a total score of 90.
Leon starts off a little rocky on the back side. He gets a triple on the 11th and a 6 over par on the 12th. On the 13th, Leon slices his ball into the light trees before the dog leg right. This was an opportunity for Kurt to pass on some (lots of) words of wisdom. To Leon’s credit he took it all in and showed Kirk the respect that he deserved. Of course Kirk could have just been telling him about his nice drive… Leon plays ok golf after that and finish the back 9 with another 58 for a total score of 116.
Chris also has troubles on the 11th and 12th hole where he gets a pair of 8s. Things are going ok until he gets to the 16th hole. On the 16th hole, Chris has a decent drive but it is on the left and just in the tree line. With all of the confidence in the world, he tells me he is going to bump and run it to the green. He does bump it (8 feet) but it never runs for him. His next shot goes crazy and is way right. His next shot is in the sand. After Chris was finished sneaking up on the hole he has a 7. Chris finishes strong but like Leon, he has the same score that he got on the front, a 54 for a final score of 108.
Joe starts out on the 10th hole with a good drive. He decides that he is going to use his 5 wood for his second shot. Boom… the ball goes straight up the cart path. The ball hits the cart path two or three times going uphill. Joe now has to hit his 3rd shot near the 11th hole tee box. He has to hit it up and over the cart path, somehow drop it on the right side of the green and do it gently enough so it does not roll down the hill of the green. Of course he duffs it , then hits it again and it rolls down the hill. Welcome back Broken Joe. Joe puts the 10th hole behind him and moves forward, in fact he par’s the 15th hole. On the 18th hole Joe hits his first shot to the right and into the water with his 5 wood. Dropping the ball and still using his 5 wood he drives it to the left side rough. He manages a decent shot from a crappy lie and finishes the hole with a 6. Joe finishes the back with a 51 and a final score of 98.
Jake takes another week off and Matt and Dan have birthday parties all weekend (or something like that).
Joe did present Leon with his “Rider Cup” Trophy. Leon is seriously considering inviting us to his house for a cook out but that might not be until next golf season after he has lived down the ridicule of buying a Buick

Leon is going to Pine Knoll on Friday if anyone is interested in getting in some practice. Send me a text about where and when you would like to play next week.
