As with most over hyped attractions, it started with trash talk and promises but in the end it was just an old fashion ass whipping.

The first nine wasn’t too bad but like last year, at the end of nine; Chris and I were down by 2. We had a couple of short putts that would have put us right in there but we failed to make them…once each times 2. Driving wasn’t great but our putting really hurt us.
On the back 9, almost immediately we were in crisis mode. At the 10th hole, we gave up 2 more and we were now down by 4.

By the 14th hole we were down by 7. Our drivers sucked or were short; our second shots were never enough to recover from the bad drives. Chipping was terrible and getting worse but the putting was atrocious.

Then came the par 3, 15th hole… Matt hit the green at about 7 feet from the pin. I am in the sand and Chris is on the green but way left. Dave sinks the putt for birdie and Chris and I take 6 putts to get a four. Now we are down by 9.

On the 16th we tied, each side getting a bogey. I’d like to tell you this is where we were making a stand and try to get back at least a little dignity but I can’t. Matt’s drive went left to the trees and Dave crushed his but it went down the wrong fairway on the right side. Chris hits a nice drive, far enough and in the fairway. Joe is in the bunker, again. Dave and Matt are stuck behind a tee and just chip out to the fair way. Chris and I are about 120 to the pin. We should have been on the green in two but that was not to happen. Both of our shots are short. Chris’s is further but the lie is in the only dirt spot within 100 yards. We both chip…and again they are short. What should have been an easy par turns in to a bogey.

To add insult to injury they get two more strokes on 17 and 18 and they win by 11.

Matt was not great, in fact he hit so many tee shots in the woods that the Environmental Police wrote him a $50 citation for littering.

What Matt didn’t do was let his partner down when he was in need. Matt didn’t hurt Dave’s game. In fact, they played Matt’s ball about 30% of the time (Dave, you should be embarrassed).
Meanwhile, Chris and I could not save each other’s bad shot and believe me there were plenty of them. I had to resort to my 3 wood and that is saying something. Chris didn’t hit a half way decent tee shot until the 16th hole but by then the fat lady was singing. On the back nine, not only did the wheels fall off but the cart was on fire, skidding to a screech halt.

Final score Dave & Matt – 77, Chris & Joe – 88. Congratulations.

Dan & Leon, do you want to start a grudge match?
