On Saturday the old guys played golf, the youngsters went to get a tan, Jake slept in and Matt had date night with Stephen.

We started a 6:30 and it was a perfect day for golf.

We get to the fourth hole and I say it’s a dog leg left. Leon says no, on the score card it looks like a dog leg right. I quickly look down at the score card and see dog leg right. How can that be? Chris says “I remember this hole, it’s a dog leg right.”

Leon hits his first ball hard right… “She GOOONE”. I hit a perfect drive to set up for the dog leg right, right through the opening in the tree line. Chris crushes his drive but it too goes right.

Leon hits his 2nd ball straight, short and safe. Chris puts another on in the woods to the right. We drive up and low and behold, it’s a dog leg left !!!! and still 350 yards to the green. I look down at the score card and realize that we were looking at the 3rd hole and not the 4th hole.

I’m screwed and now have to get back on to my own fairway. I say f*ck it and hit down the wrong fairway towards the green. Yes, I know that eventually I will have to cross the tree line but not right now.

Chris finds his first ball; it actually cleared the tree line. Unlike me, Chris tries to get back on our fairway by going through the tree line. In the end, Chris gets a 7, I gets an 8 and Leon gets a 10.

At the turn I have a 50, Chris is at 56 and Leon is bringing up the rear with 58. On to the back nine.

The 10th hole wasn’t kind to Chris; he gets a 10 while Leon and I par it.

The 11th hole is a pretty simple par 3 but we butcher it pretty good.

The 12th hole is where things get interesting.

Chris hits a nice drive up and over the slight dog leg right. Leon is at the top of the hill and I hit my drive about 80 yards. My 2nd shot should be easy since it’s a slight dog leg right up and then downhill and I have hit this kind of shot the first time we played here. That is if Chris wasn’t screaming like a banshee while I’m trying to swing.

Of course the ball goes right, towards the open wood line. I drop my club walk up the hill to where Leon has the cart parked, get another ball and walk back. I’m not happy.

I hit my provisional ball beautiful and it goes right where I want it to and at least this time, Leon meets me half way. Leon and I start heading into the open wood line and Chris is yelling again… What now? As we get close we hear him say that my 2nd shot hit a tree and is just off the fairway. Next thing I know, a golf ball lands just behind me. We start moving towards the green when Leon tells me Chris pick up a ball and it’s probably from the twosome behind us.

At the green Chris says we should let them play through but I see the guys behind us and it looks like they are looking for a ball. After a few minutes I say lets’ play the par 3 and if they catch us then they can play through on 14. Fortunately we never see them again and continue on with our game. I guess they didn't want to "lose" anymore balls.

We are almost finished the 17th hole when Leon notices we are missing a hole. As we are driving up to 18th hole I realize that I didn’t write down the 12th hole score because of all the crap that was going on. No harm and no foul, we just call it a practice round and move on with our lives.

We finish 18 and we talk about playing the 12 hole so we can get a complete round. Chris says let’s just go to the 12th, Leon and I think we should ask. Leon goes and asks the score keeper if we can go back out to play 12th hole since we missed.

Chris is playing under protest and I say we don’t have to play the hole and just leave now. In the end we all decide to replay the 12 hole. Of course at this point we really don’t remember what the 12th hole looks like, until we get there. Chris starts complaining the he got a six on this hole and the only thing I remember is that banshee screaming while I was trying to hit my 2nd shot… and that when the argument starts. He complains that he got a 6, I say forget and just go back. This goes on for a few minutes and then we change to the fact that he was yelling uncontrollably while I was trying hit my 2nd shot, Chris say he was yelling that my ball hit a tree and was just off the fairway. This goes on for a few minutes when I say that he was yelling BEFORE I hit my 2nd shot which THEN hit the tree. Chris then quietly says he was yelling that it was dog leg right.

Leon does his best to calm the situation but it ain't easy. In the end we play the hole to complete 18 holes for score.

Of course to add insult to injury, I hit a beautiful drive and par the hole. Leon gets a 6 and Chris lose one in the woods and gets an 8.

Back to the clubhouse for a drink... Chris stirs the pot by sending text messages to the rest of the group

The reality is we didn’t have to play 12 again but we all decided to do so. In the end, I scored a 98, Leon a 106 and Chris a 115. Hell, what’s the best Chris could have done? 113? This is first time I’ve seen someone get 6 points for a 115. He can’t be that unhappy.

Since everyone decided to replay the 12th hole then the round is complete. The Commissioner certified the score card. Chris’s call for the Competition Committee to take a vote but was overruled by Article 46 Section 1a.

After another hour of drinks and since its only 11:15 we decide to play another nine for $10. By the time we pay, take a piss and get another drink for the course, a group of 3 adults and 5 kids of gets in front of us and tees off the 10th hole. The starter tells us it’s not as bad as it looks, the kids are only putting. Only after it’s brutally clear that the adults in front of us are going to be here all day, the starter tells us to find an open hole and just keep bouncing around.

Chris leads us through the woods and what do you know, we are right back at the 12th hole. We make some jokes but tee off quickly since we are cutting in front of the group that is putting on the 11th hole. Because we have to get rolling we drop the "official" rules of Broken Joe. That was a good call because I think Leon put two in the woods.

We get through the 13th hole and move to the 14th hole. At the end the par 5, 14th hole there is water. I play the hole perfectly and get par. Chris puts two in the water for 8. Leon puts one in the water and then proceeds to the drop zone on the other side of the water and makes 6. (This is why we have rules)

Throughout the back 9 we manage to stay close to the group in front of us and we are just fast enough to keep the group behind us off our ass.

One of our major concerns was coming back to 10th hole, Edgewood was having a tournament at 1pm and we thought we might get stuck behind that mess. As we go from 18th to 10th we see that there isn’t a soul around, it seems they only had 8 foursome for the tournament.

When we get to the par 3 11th hole and Chris says we need to make it interesting. Closest to the pin but you have to make the green.

I go first and pull a hard 5 iron left (did I say left?) and it goes far, past the tee box on 12 and almost to the woods. Leon goes next and just barely gets over the water. Chris, finally, hits a great shot, a slight fade right on to the green about 7 feet from the pin. Yes, even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in a while. Chris gets the 3, Leon a 5 and I round it out with a 6 that I was more than happy to take.

I shoot a 45, Leon shoots a 55 and Chris shoots a 53.

We get back to the clubhouse were Leon starts to tell Chris that he is going to win the 3 Club Challenge. The shit talking flows freely but then it time to go. We all ask each other if they paid for the round and everyone answers “no”. Chris asks Leon who lost on the 11th hole? I go inside and pay the bill.
