We were scheduled to play at St Ann’s but I couldn’t get a tee time before 10am so we changed it to Cold Springs.

For both of the final weeks of the Broken Joe Championship, just Chris and Joe played. Leon was supposed to play but at the last minute he had to work. Ray, currently not even a member of the Broken Joe HAS played the last two weeks. Everyone else seemed to have run out of gas and came to halt, returning to their lives and families.

You’ll have to forgive me for not remembering a lot of the details since I went on vacation for 2 weeks after the final round of Broken Joe Golf.

We haven’t played Cold Spring this year so it was nice to play there. We had a 7:36 tee time but it was cold and cloudy. After 9 holes Chris and Joe were tied at 50 and Ray was at 60.

The back nine was just as nasty but Chris managed to play it better. Chris shots a 48 to go along with his 50 for a total of 98. Joe would crap all over the 10th hole with an 11 and the 14th hole with an 8. Joe finished the back nine with 55 to go with his 50 to finish his last round with a 105.

Ray tied Joe on the back with his own 55 to finish with a 115.

While the Broken Joe GOLF Championship, mirrored after the Fed Ex Cup, did not go quite as I had planned it still got finished. Truth be told, Leon was the only one who could have beaten Joe for the Championship and even then Leon would have need to win and Joe would have had to come in 3rd or worse. As the fickle hand of fate would have it, Leon had to work at the last minute allowing Joe to claim his 2nd Broken Joe Golf championship.

After lunch and a few drinks later, and as we were leaving we ran into someone from the pro shop where we talked about handicaps. He was quite informative and I was able to do a lot of research once I got home but that is a blog post for another time.

When we got outside it was as if it was we had been transported to a sunny April Florida day.

The sun was shining, the birds were singing and it was warm with no wind. We looked at each other and said “We should play another round; we won’t get many days in Oct like this (even though we would play into Dec). After Joe called to get permission we went inside to pay a minimal fee to play another round and get more drinks.

Somehow our time inside allowed the rift in time to send us back to October in Massachusetts. If anything it was colder and windier than it had been in the morning. What the hell were we thinking?

The front nine was bad but when we added the scores it seemed to be OK. Joe had gotten a 12 on the 7th hole but still managed to finish the front with a 51. Chris didn’t have a bad hole like Joe but still managed to finish the front with a 51. Ray brought up the rear with a 56.

The back nine was cold but we pushed through.

For as bad as it was, our scores and our luck held out. For example, on the last hole, Chris hit a drive that is high and really short. In fact from the tee box we can hear the ball thud into the earth. I thought the ball didn’t make it past the water hole but after a 2 hour search Chris and Ray found the ball on the bank of the water hole.

Chris hits his next shot and it goes crazy right. Up and over the embankment and on to the road. I thought that ball has got to be gone but low and behold Chris finds this ball too.

Chris hits the lucky golf ball again and this time is screams up the actual road.

I think to myself this ball has to be lost this time but to Chris’s credit he found his ball for a 3rd time. With all that drama he finishes the hole with a 7.

As it turns out Chris and Joe were fighting it out on the back nine and that last hole was the key to Joe’s empty victory.

On the back nine Joe shoots a 51 to finish with a 102, Chris finishes with a 53 and a 104. Ray shoots a respectful 56 and saves a stroke from his first round to finish with a 114.
