WINTER IS HERE

Ok, truth be told, Fall just got here less than a week ago but it does mean that the Winter Classic Championship is almost here.

Initially the Winter Classic Championship was scheduled for Sept 23, 2017 but that was the same date as the Boyle Golf Tournament which is a usual Carabine annual event. I then looked at Sept 30th 2017 but that is Rock’s Family BBQ which is always a huge event. That left Oct 7th as the date for the Winter Classic. This is a good date because it’s just weird to have the “Winter Classic” in September. However, because the Winter Classic is two full rounds (36 holes) we can’t push it back too far or we risk running out of daylight.

I knew I had to lock on the time and date with Franconia quickly so we wouldn’t have any issue when it was time to play the Classic. I went to Franconia on Sept 16th, 17th and then, finally, on the 19th, I was able to secure the first round tee times for 7:00am, 7:08 and 7:16 and the second round tee times for 11:40, 11:48 and 12:06. That should give us plenty of time, even if we have a tie like last year.

Franconia has 2 ball tournament of Sunday so if you can’t make the 7th you’ll have to get your rounds in on the Oct 14th / 15th. Just know that the Broken Joe Championship rounds run the following back to back weekends, Oct 21st and Oct 28th.

Only the top eight on the leaderboard after the Winter Classic will move on to the first round of the Broken Joe Championship. After that round, only the top four on the leaderboard will move on to the Broken Joe Golf Championship (think Fed Ex Cup)

24 weeks have passed since we played our first round of golf in the 2017 Broken Joe Golf season and I am still chasing people’s money. Therefore I am taking a page from the “Rock Thibeault School of Money Collecting”. You now have seven days to bring me what you owe for the year. Money is due to me by 5pm on Sunday, October 1st . Broken Joe Golf membership cancellations will be sent out on Monday, October 2nd, 2017.

Dan - $58.00

Dave - $29.00

Matty Ice – $28.00

Bryan - $22.00

Eric - $15.00

I will be at a conference in Vermont from Tuesday, September 26th to Saturday, September 30th. You can pay Chris, the Co-Founder of Broken Joe Golf, while I am gone or you can call or text me to make arrangements for payment.

Since the weekly money list was based on everyone paying the $60.00, I may need to go back and adjust those payouts on Tuesday, October 3rd.

BREAKING NEWS

Ronnie just decided he was getting married on October 7th yesterday and he just told Dave. This is one of the reasons that I am the 2015 & 2016 Broken Joe Golf Champion – commitment.

That being said I only see so many options but of course not everyone will be able to adjust their schedule for the good of golf.

1. We already have a 3 week playing rule and I had prayed nightly that the Winter Classic Championship would not be tarnished by spreading it out over 3 weeks but it would seem that we are here. The WCC will be played on Oct 7th. Anyone not available on that date could play on Sept 30, Oct 1, Oct 14 or Oct 15. The issue is that Franconia is starting to run 2 ball tournaments and eventually Franconia will go to a full shotgun start format. Don’t forgot that clock’s “fall back” on Nov 5th.

2. Rock made an interesting suggestion that we take a Friday off to get the Classic completed but that may be hard for some people.

3. We move the Classic to Oct 14th (another week without Broken Joe Golf), Play Round One on Oct 21st and the BJG Championship on Oct 28th.

In the latest BREAKING NEWS...from our on-street reporter, Joe T at Sophie's :

"Franconia is hosting weeks of 2 ball tournaments. Sept 30th, Oct 8th, Oct 15th, Oct 22nd, Oct 28th, Oct 29th and Nov 4th. This has put Broken Joe Golf in a precarious situation as the end of the season comes near.

Rock, in what appears to be a bid for the 2018 Broken Joe Golf Commissioner's spot, makes a second good suggestion that we change golf course which is reasonable except for the fact that we were supposed to play at one golf course all year. I guess that dream has died.

Priority of Work:

1. Get you money in to Broken Joe Golf by next Sunday night.

2. What dates are you AVAILABLE to play the last 3 rounds of golf. Please include any Fridays if you have any available. Try to get this to me today..

3. Be ready to play at a different golf course.

4. As usual, the Commissioner will take all of the available information and make a final decision.
