Well the 2nd week of the 2018 Broken Joe Golf season is in the books but I don’t think anyone knew it would look like this.

First, our 2018 Broken Joe Golf Champion, Eric, is now out for the season. As it turns out, winning the championship pushed his shoulder to the limit and he will now need surgery. Eric has paid his 2018 fee which guarantees his spot for the 2019 Broken Joe Golf season.

Matty Ice is also calling it quits (again). This time the reason is “changes in his life”. Welcome to adulthood Matty Ice, hopefully we will see you on the golf course in 2019.

Rey, could not play on Sundays in 2018 but we will find a way to bring Rey back in 2019.

With a total of three golfers out, we were able to bring in 2 new guys, Jon and Adam. Unfortunately, they are both fighting to take Matty Ice’s spot at the bottom of the pack after the 2nd Round from the yellows.

We had 9 golfers playing at Chicopee. Five were playing from the whites and four were moved up to the yellows after their poor play at the “Misters”.

Bryan, Chris and Dave were in group one and they were all playing from the whites. Life didn’t start out well for this group with Chris getting an 11 on the first hole, Bryan getting a 9 on the second hole and Dave grabbing a 7 on the par 3, third hole. No wonder the Ranger was asking them to speed up play and to stop playing so many “provisional” balls. You could tell by the nervous laughter that they could very well be playing from the yellow tees during the next round.

The second group was Jake and Rock playing from the white tees and Dan playing from the yellow tees. Again the first hole was not pretty, Jake grabs an 11, Rock scores an 8 and Dan has his own concerns by scoring an 8 but he is playing from the yellow tees. While Rock and Dan eventually start to get their game together, Jake gets a 9 on the 2nd hole and another 11 on the 7th hole. Dan has no plans on playing from the yellows for the next round.

The 3rd group is pure yellow tee players – Joe T, Jon and Adam. All of them have a problem off the first tee box, Joe T gets an 8, Jon an 11 and Adam shoots an unlucky 13. At least we know this group is counting all of their strokes. Jon continues with a 9 and two 8s. Not to be out done, Adam adds an 11, two 9s and 8 to his score card.

After 9 holes, Joe T and Dan are leading the charge from the yellow tees with a 50 and 51. Rock shoots his own 51 but at least he does it from the white tee boxes. Bryan scores a 54 which is 10 more then he shoots at the “Misters” in the cold and windy conditions of St Annes. Dave is one behind Bryan with a 55 and Chris has a 57. Jake is the first man to cross over to 60, followed by Jon with a 63 and Adam with a 69. I wonder when Jake actually knows that he will be playing with Jon and Adam from the yellow tee boxes for the “Pretenders”…?

The Back Nine: Joe T continues to lead the pack (from the yellow tees) with a 47. Not to be out done, Dave and Chris shot their own 47 but they do it from the white tees.

Dan continues to play well from the yellow tees box and scores a 52. Bryan scores the same but from the white tee boxes.

Jake continues to struggle but does take 4 strokes off his front 9 score to grab a 56 but at some point Jake is going to have to say the words "116" out loud and to the group.. Rock has a melt down on the 17th hole and finishes the back with a 64. Adam grabs a 64 too but from the yellows. Jon brings up the rear with a 68, again from the yellows. I'm just glad Jon and Adam weren't playing from the white tee boxes....
