"Joe Pesci" Open: Agawam

As noted in last week's blog post, we moved the schedule up a week so that you could have a nice long and relaxing Memorial Day weekend. We are also off on the June 3rd and then we are hot and heavy, like Matt and his girl friend, with Majors and Tournaments for the rest of the season. Use the 2 weeks off to catch your breath and of course, get some practice in, I’ve seen some of you hit a ball and the practice couldn’t hurt.
The Joe Pesci Open is now May 20th, 2018 at Agawam Municipal Golf Course and this event is in reference to Tony the golf course manager. Unfortunately, we recently learned that Tony no longer works there but the event must go on.
I always liked Tony. He was brash and sarcastic but he always took care of us. Of course, first, he had to bust our balls.
I remember one time we were complaining about the length of grass on the edge of the fairway. Agawam never had a first or second cut, it was just deep rough once you left the fairway. Tony was saying that, yes, he did leave it about a half inch longer than most courses but it was good for the grass. Chris was busting Tony’s ass hard about the rough when he asks Chris what he shot. Chris said 101 and Tony, with a dead face stare, said, “With that score, don’t you worry about my rough”. He also told us a great story about Bryan and Joe T at last year’s Winter Classic Championship.
The Joe Pesci Open is a regular week with the Fed Up points being worth 100 points. While the 100 points do not seem like a lot, Chris is 14 points a head of the 2nd place golfer.

Yes, I mixed it up a bit this week which means you should be prepared to play with anyone and everyone.
I have also heard some complaints about the time spent looking for lost balls. You get 3 minutes and then move on with your life. If it continues to be a problem I may assess a one stroke penalty for each minute after the approved 3. Instead of spending time 10 minutes looking for a ball you can't hit, spend that time at the driving range.
Don’t forget to bring $5.00 for Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive Competition.
The “Closest to the Pin” will be on the 5th Hole, Par 3 at 122 yards. The green is small and nothing good is surrounding it so you just have to go for it.
The Longest Drive will be held on the 7th Hole, Par 4 at 306 yards. The 7th hole has a down hill roll if you can keep it on the fairway.
Bring your rain gear, it looks like it’s going to be wet again.
Respectfully,
Broken Joe
