Yes, I know that the Winter Meeting was on Jan 12th and I am just getting to it on Jan 25th but right now, I am a busy man.

On Jan 12th, 2019, we had our very first Broken Joe Golf “Winter Meeting”. This was also the Grand Opening of the Broken Joe Golf World Headquarters.

At the Winter Meeting, we covered the 2019 Schedule, Cost Breakdown and Fee Schedule, Current Handicaps, and 2019 BJG Handicaps.

The big change to the 2019 Broken Joe Golf schedule is that we will be playing more golf at Veterans and Franconia. In the 2018 Broken Joe Golf Schedule, Franconia and Veterans were only scheduled once each, which would have been 13% of the 2018 schedule. In the 2019 Broken Joe Golf schedule, we are now playing Franconia and Veterans four times each (total of 8). This means that we will be playing Franconia and Veterans 57% of the time in 2019.

Next, Joe T made a motion to change the way that the Fed Up Cup is played. Instead of eliminating Golfers and only allowing the top 8 golfers to start the Fed Up Cup Playoffs, he wants everyone to get into the first round. The idea would be that the number One player plays the number Fourteen player, the number Two player plays the number Thirteen player and so on with each “winner” moving on to the next round. The motion passes but we now have 13 Golfers instead of 12. My guess is that the Number One golfer on the Leaderboard will get a bye in Round One and then everyone else will pay each other. Since this would leave 7 golfers after the first round, I am guessing that the lowest score after the first round will get a bye for the 2nd round and move directly to the final round. I will have to ask Joe T for his thoughts on this.

Next Jon made a motion about a Broken Joe Golf road trip. In 2016, we played a couple of rounds at Hampton Beach and Chris and I went back in 2017. The motion passed and we will now play our 2nd Major, the Fathers & Uncles Invitational in NH on June 14th and 15th. This will get everyone home for Father’s Day on Sunday, June 16th.

Fees – In 2019, we need to buy the 2019 Mister’s Jacket, the Chosen FORE trophy, the President’s Trophy, the Championship of the World belt, 8-2019 trophy plates, 2 -Golf Shirts and pay for the website. The total estimated cost is $669.00. With eleven current players paying $45.00 and two new golfers paying $80 the total comes to $655. Yes, we are $14 short but I am sure someone will be late to pay their dues. Collecting the fees was so much easier in 2018 then it was in 2017 so I will continue that same rule.

Don’t forget that the PGA has made some significant rules changes for 2019. Take a look at them an at some point I will update the Rules of BJG. I will get to that blog post after the 2019 Broken Joe Golf International (Florida) Championship which is coming up in about 8 days.

The 2019 Broken Joe Golf International (Florida) Championship has grown again. Just Chris and I went in 2014 and 2016. Dan and Dave joined us in 2017 and we now have 6 golfers playing the 2019 Florida Championship which goes from Feb 4rd to Feb 6th.

As a reminder, The Connecticut Golf Show is March 22 – 24 at the Connecticut Convention Center, Hartford, USA

Respectfully and hopefully, the new 2019 BJG International Champion,

Broken Joe

Commissioner
