From Wikipedia: "Easter, also called Pascha (Greek, Latin) or Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.[ It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus, preceded by Lent (or Great Lent), a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance."

"Easter and the holidays that are related to it are moveable feasts which do not fall on a fixed date in the Gregorian or Julian calendars which follow only the cycle of the sun; rather, its date is determined on a lunisolar calendar similar to the Hebrew calendar. The First Council of Nicaea (325) established two rules, independence of the Jewish calendar and worldwide uniformity, which were the only rules for Easter explicitly laid down by the council. No details for the computation were specified; these were worked out in practice, a process that took centuries and generated a number of controversies. It has come to be the first Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon that occurs on or soonest after 21 March but, calculations vary."
What does that mean? In a nutshell, unbeknownst to most of us, Easter can fall anywhere between March 23rd (2008) and April 24th (2011). I always thought that Easter was the last week in March or the first week in April which is one of the reasons I started the Broken Joe Golf season on Sunday, April 21st, which ended up being Easter in 2019.
If you are religious, Easter is an important day to you and / or if you have kids, the Easter Bunny is also an important.

"The Easter Bunny (also called the Easter Rabbit or Easter Hare) is a folkloric figure and symbol of Easter, depicted as a rabbit bringing Easter eggs. Originating among German Lutherans, the "Easter Hare" originally played the role of a judge, evaluating whether children were good or disobedient in behavior at the start of the season of Eastertide. The Easter Bunny is sometimes depicted with clothes. In legend, the creature carries colored eggs in his basket, candy, and sometimes also toys to the homes of children, and as such shows similarities to Santa Claus or the Christkind, as they both bring gifts to children on the night before their respective holidays. "
Why does a rabbit bring eggs? Why don’t we have the Easter Chicken???? I don't know but the kids get another Christmas, just smaller and with a rabbit. Plus they get the Easter Egg Hunt.
Why have I gone into such depths regard Easter, you ask? Only so that I can get to this. Knowing that Easter is important to some of the families of Broken Joe Golf, I think it is best to just rip off the bandage and move the start of the season from Sunday, April 21st (Easter) to Sunday, April 14th.
The good news with this change is that your significant other and your children or grandchildren will be happy. We get to start the season a week early, and we still get the week off before the Misters (Masters) to get in a practice round. The bad news is that we may not be able to play at Franconia. If that happens, we can just flip flop the locations between The Pretenders and The Misters.
All in favor of moving the Pretenders to Sunday, April 14th say “Yes.” (or No). Last one to reply owes a round of beers after "The Pretenders" (The Players).
If we cannot come up with an alternate date, we will have to stay with the schedue date of April 21st but we still have some time to work on it.
Don't forget, next weekend is the CT Golf Expo.
If you have not paid your BJG fee as of yesterday, add another $10. ($65 and $100) and it is due by March 30th.
Respectfully,
Broken Joe Commissioner
