Chris has once again won the 3 club challenge. This would be his 3rd time in 5 years. I don't think anyone has won any trophy 3 times. Congratulations.

Of course, that win did not come without some drama, controversy and slow play.

Adam, Bryan, Jon, and Rey took the week off.

Front 9:

My group played pretty well on the front 9, but we did have a slow foursome in front us.

No, not every shot was great, but the good news was that you only had 2 clubs to chose before you got to the green. This usually meant you were going to be long or short. If you brought a driver or a 3 wood, you were also going left and right. Judging by the scorecards, most people knew if that had brought the right 3 clubs by the 3rd hole.

The 9th hole was brutal for most golfers but more so for Dan and Chris. Both of these golfers somehow hit golf carts in the clubhouse area. Both were playing well until - Dan got his 10 and Chris walked off with a 9.

Our newest member, Cody (10 handicap), shot par on this hole. Cody, welcome to Broken Joe Golf.

I don't know what clubs Matt brought, but none of them were the "right" club. Maybe he was playing lefty.

Front 9 scores:

Joe – 49 Rock – 51 Chris C – 52 Chris – 54 Joe T – 54 Steve – 54 Cody – 54 Dan – 55 Dave – 55 Jake – 59 Nick – 59 Matt – 73

Back 9:

And then the wheels fell off for Group One. Between the slow play, the lost balls and hitting the wrong ball plus the drunken group behind us fighting about scores and dropping bombs on us. It got ugly.

On the 11th hole, someone had an errant tee shot that went WAY left and in fact reached the street. Unfortunately, at that exact same time, there was a car rolling down the road. From what I understand, the driver is still trying to return the golf ball to its owner. Again, not pretty.

On the 12th hole, which was shortened by about 120 yards, the group behind us started teeing off as we were hitting our second shots. Dan was so upset he grinded one of those balls deep into the ground and then used the end of his clubs to drive the ball further into the earth. In came another bomb and Dan looked like a squirrel in the middle of the road as he made his way back to the cart.

Note: Cody, gets a birdie on 12 !!!

Dan had a 10 and three 8s. Rock had an 11 and 4 8s. Joe had three 8s and a 9. Can someone hand me a fire extinguisher?

More drama on the 18th hole. Someone decided that group one and two should play the last hole together. Something about Dan not being allowed outside without doing his chores or having to attend a kid's party. Whatever it was, he needed to go home, which meant Dave had to go too. With 6 of us at the green, Matt put his ball which hit Joe's. Joe moved his ball back to its original position and thats when the fight started. You would have thought that Joe had kidnapped the Lindbergh baby. All of the "fake" PGA officials on the green all said that he had committed an appalling penalty, Of course, Joe didn't believe that he had but he moved the ball back to where it had moved to. Turns out that Joe, the Commissioner, was correct:

Rule 18-5

Ball at Rest Moved by Another Ball

Q. Steve's (Joe's) ball was at rest on the putting green. Cindy(Matt) plays from just off the green, and her ball hits Steve's (Joe's) ball. What must Steve (Joe) do?

A. Under Rule 18-5, Steve (Joe) must replace his ball back to its original position. (See related FAQ under Rule 19) Cindy (Matt) must play her ball as it lies. There is no penalty to either player in either match play or stroke play. In stroke play only, if Cindy's (Matt" s) ball lay on the putting green prior to the stroke, she would incur a penalty of two strokes.

To be honest with you, I don't remember where Matt was putting from, but 2 more strokes were not going to hurt his score. In keeping with Britney Spears theme, Matt's golf ball was like...

Lesson – If you have a problem/question about something, mark the scorecard with the lower score and circle it. Don't resort to name calling or fisticuffs. Ask the question at the club house when you turn in your card and a ruling will be made. No one needs a "back seat rules official" while you are trying to win an event.
