My, how the world turns. Congratulations to Jon and Matt.

Baby McKenna, Uncle Matt owes you Big Time.

Before you start whining, this is not the first time something like this has happened. Dave was disqualified from the Chosen FORE alt shot because Matt did not show up. Dan won the 3 Club Challenge from the yellow tee boxes. In the end, it does not matter because rules are rules.

It's not like I didn't ask who was not coming and of course, who knew Jon was going to have a baby last week. That's just the way life is sometimes.

Matt has never had a sniff at the Playoffs, but now, because of how the year has shaken out, he could actually make it into the first round of the Fed Up Cup. This scenario reminds me of the time when the Seattle Seahawks won their division with a 7–9 record, in 2010.

Front Nine:

Matt – 9 Points

Rey – 7 vs. Rock – 2. Rey comes out swinging, winning the first two holes. Rock wins the third, but then Rey wins the next three. Rock comes back to win the 7th hole, but again, Rey roars back to win the last two holes.

Chris C – 6 vs. Joe T – 2. Chris C hammers Joe T for the first four holes, but Joe finally wins a hole on the 6th hole. Chris C comes back to win 7 and 8; Joe wins the last hole.

Adam – 4 vs. Nic – 4. Adam and Nic have a seesaw battle. Adam wins the first hole, but then Nic wins the next two. Adam wins the 4th hole, and Nic wins the 5th. They tie on the 6th hole and then Nic wins the 7th. Adam finishes the front nine strong by winning holes 8 and 9.

Cody – 4 vs. Dave – 3. Cody wins the 4 out of the first six holes. Dave finally regains his balance and wins the last three holes.

Dan – 4 vs. Steve – 3. Another back and forth match. Dan wins the first hole; Steve wins the 2nd. Dan wins the 3rd, and Steve wins the 4th. They tie on the 5th hole; Steve wins the 6th, and Dan wins the 7th. They tie on the 8th. The par 3, 9th hole proves too much for Steve and Dan wins the 9th easily.

Joe – 4 vs. Jake – 2. Jake wins the first hole, but then Joe wins the 2nd, 4th and the 6th. Jake wins the 8th hole, but Joe takes the 9th.

Bryan – 2 vs. Chris – 1. Bryan draws first blood, but it doesn't happen until the 3rd hole. Chris wins the 4th, but Bryan comes back to win the 5th, and then it is all square from there.

Back Nine:

Matt – 9 (all alone...)

Rock – 6 vs. Rey – 2. Rey had put Rock in a deep hole on the front, but there is no quit in Rock. Rock wins the 10th, 11th and the 12th hole.

Rey final wins his first hole on the 13th, but Rock comes right back to win the 14th hole.

Rey takes the 16th hole with Rock finishing strong taking the 17th and 18th hole.

Adam – 5 vs. Nic – 0. Nic may have played to a tie with Adam on the front, but Nic had no answers for Adams onslaught, and Nic could not win a single hole on the back.

Chris C – 5 vs. Joe T – 3. Joe T plays strong winning holes 10 and 11, but Chris C was unimpressed and won the next 3. Joe T manages to take one more hole (15th), and then Chris C wins 2 out of the last 3, finally putting Joe T out of his misery.

Dave – 4 vs. Cody – 3. Dave starts fast on the back nine, winning 4 out of the first six holes, but Dave leaves the door open, and Cody wins the last three holes.

Jake – 4 vs. Joe - 3. Joe comes out strong taking two out of the first three holes, and Jake wins his first hole on the 13th hole. Jake plays hard, looking for at least a tie and goes on a winning streak, taking the 15th, 17th, and the 18th hole.

Joe makes a friend at the turn.

Dan – 4 vs. Steve – 2. Dan and Steve trade wins on 10 & 11 and again on the 13 & 14, then Dan shuts the door on Steve by winning the 16th and 18th hole.

Bryan – 4 vs. Chris – 4. Bryan and Chris played it tight for the first nine holes, but they took the gloves on the back nine with only one hole not being claimed by either one of them.

Match Play Final:

Rey defeats Rock, 9 to 8 (by 1)

Great Battle 1. I finally got the Match that I wanted to see, and while it was lopedside on each side of the 18 holes, you had to look at the whole round to know the struggles of both Golfers. While Rock may have come up short by one point, he almost entered the 80's club.

Bryan defeats Chris, 6 to 5 (by 1)

Great Battle 2. What looked like was going to be all smoke, and no fire on the front nine turned into a real nail biter at the end. Not only did they tie on the back nine, but they also tied in the actual score as well. Bryan has beaten Chris over the last two rounds of golf.

Joe defeats Jake, 7 to 6 (by 1):

Great Battle 3. Joe managed to put together a pretty good round, at least as far each hole was concerned. Jake knew after the 13th hole that he could not give Joe another hole, and he didn't. We both think it's a hard-fought tie and then we realize that Joe gets a stroke on the 14th hole and that is enough to break Jake's heart. Great way to finish strong Jake.

Joe won, but he could be in some serious trouble, not including Pine Knoll, Joe has shot 101, 103 and 102. That is not what you want to see coming down the stretch at the end of the regular season.

Dan defeats Steve, 8 to 5 (by 3)

A good match. These two were tied going into the 14th hole when Steve stumbled, and Dan took advantage by using his years of experience in Match Play. Steve won the battle by score, but in the end, he lost the war.

Adam defeats Nic, 9 to 4 (by 5)

The front nine was a good battle, but Nic may as well have stayed home with Jon because he did not show up on the back nine. In fact, Adam did not need the three holes he was given to beat Nic. So much for playing for pride.

Chris C defeats Joe T, 11 to 5 (by 6):

In this Match up I was worried if either of these golfers were going to have a good game. It turns out Chris C played well and Joe T not so well. Joe T had a BAD match even though his scores to date have not been that bad. I guess we are all entitled to a bad game. Joe T will need to bounce back for the Fed Up Cup.

Cody & Dave tie, 7 to 7 (by 0)

You could not have asked for any more. Our top two Golfers went to WAR for 18 holes and walked away with a tie. But wait, there's more, turns out they thought the Match was over and screwed around for the last two or three holes. Next time, one of you two should take your shoes off and check the scores before calling it quits. That or try reading the blog…

Matt defeats "No Show" Jon, 18 to 0 (by 18)

Once Jon had the baby all that was left was the crying. Usually, whoever plays Matt is the wins this event, but the fickle hand of fate smiled down on Matt, giving him the win. Matt played pretty well since he had no pressure in Match Play.

Except for the fact that Jon wasn't able to play, Joe T and Nic having an off day and Cody & Dave not understanding what was going on, we still had some close matches.

Match Play brings a whole new level of stress to Broken Joe Golf. Sometimes you're the windshield, but sometimes you are the bug.

Our 4th and final Major, The BJG Championship, will be played on August 11th, 2019. This Makor is scheduled for Franconia Golf Course, and it is a double round (36 holes). I sent Ryan Hall, the Golf Pro, an email last week about getting on the course as early as possible but he still has not responded to me.

The BJG Championship will also be our last rounds in the 2019 regular season, and we will crown our first "Race to Big Y (Dubai)" regular-season Champion.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe Commissioner
