Sunday was the day that we have all been waiting for, especially our final four golfers.
Chicopee County Club is a tough golf course, so these players had better bring their best game. Fortunately for those of us playing, it is a beautiful day, and not many golfers have signed up for the shotgun start. Joe arrives first around 6:20, followed by Steve. Steve is a local celebrity at Chicopee County Club, much like Norm is at Cheers. The hour is getting late, and we are still missing our final four. Chris and Joe are ready to step in, just in case. With about 7 minutes to spare, our final four golfers arrive. And we are off… Through the first four holes, everything is tight. Dave and Rey get a par on the 2nd hole, and Jake gets his own par on the 3rd hole. Everyone stumbles on the par 4, 4th hole with Dave and Jake getting 9s; Rey gets an 8 and Dan gets a couple of strokes back with his 7. On the 5th hole, Jake and Rey get another par and Dan now has his fourth 7. On the 6th hole, Jake is the loser with a triple bogey, Dave and Rey get bogey and Dan gets a 6 (at least it's not a 7). On the 7th hole, par 5, Dave and Rey get a double bogey, and Jake gets a 9. Dan has trouble getting over the water and finishes with a 14. Dan's day is probably over, and now it is a three-horse race.
On the par 3, 8th hole everyone gets a bogey except Jake; he gets a double. On the 9th hole, Jake gets the lone birdie of the day. Dave scores par; Rey gets a double, and Dan finds himself with another 7 (number 5). First Nine Scores: Dave – 48 Jake – 51 Rey – 52 Dan – 64 Rey is getting a total of 9 strokes from Dave and 6 strokes from Jake. Right now Rey is sitting pretty good, and I am sure Dave and Jake are a little (lot) worried.
On to the Last Nine Holes. Dave gets a par on the 10th hole, and Jake has a bogey, Rey and Dan get a double. The 11th and 12th holes are par 3s. Jake walks away with an 8 (2 bogeys), Dave gets a triple bogey and a bogey (10). Dan gets a 10 (two double bogeys), and Rey starts to feel the wheels come off as he scores 14 (8 and a 6). Rey's day may have just come to an end which would make this just a two-horse race.
On the 13th hole, Jake and Rey get a bogey, Dave has a double and Dan gets his 6th seven of the day. On the 14th hole, Jake gets a bogey, and everyone else gets a triple-bogey 7. Dan now has his 7th seven of the day. Jake has just taken the actual lead over Dave by one stroke.
On the 15th hole, Dave fires back with a par, Jake and Dan get bogey and Rey gets an 8. Rey's car is starting to smoke. Jake and Dave are all tied up but Dave is still giving up 3 strokes to Jake.
On the par 3, 16th hole, Jake and Dan get bogey, Dave and Rey get a triple. Rey's car is on fire, and Dave is down by 2 strokes to Jake.
On the 17th hole, everyone gets a 7 except Rey; he gets an 8 and is looking for some water to put the fire out. Dan has his 8th seven of the day.
On the 18th hole, Dave gets a bogey. Jake and Rey get a double and Dan finished the round off with an 8 (again, at least it's not a 7) Last Nine Scores: Jake – 46 Dave – 50 Dan – 55 Rey – 60 Jake played bogey golf for all but two holes on the back. Dave had two pars, but the triple bogeys on two of the three par 3s were going to leave a mark. Dan saves some dignity by shaving 9 strokes off his first nine scores. Rey, who looked like he had this thing in the bag, ended up being a train wreck on the back.
Final Scores (Actual Scores) 1st Place: Jake – 100 (97) 2nd Place: Dave – 104 (98) 3rd Place: Rey – 109 (112) 4th Place: Dan – 116 (119) Congratulations to the Mountain Man for winning the 2019 Fed Up Cup.
