The Winter Classic Championship is our oldest (2012) , and for those that have not won it, our most prestigious.

Yes, we have made some changes over the years but hopefully, we continue to move in the right direction. Every year we talk about adding an asterisk to the winner’s name.

2012 – Dave

2013 – Dave (Actually Dave won with an 8 handicap)

2014 – Joe (Dave did not play due to injury)

2015 – Matt (Chris and Matt tied and had to play a week later. Matt had a 42 handicap)

2016 – Dan (Dan and Leon tie and had to play 3 playoff holes)

2017 – Rock (All of 2017 has an asterisk)

2018 - Joe

2019 - ?

During this year's Winter Classic, there will be no smiles from the Golf Gods; it is going to be cold and wet. The low on Saturday night is going to be 45 degrees, and the high for Sunday is going to be 54. That means it is going to be a whopping 9 degrees warmer from the low to the high. And it's going to rain… all day.

So now we are going to see who's in and who's out. Who has the commitment and who does not. Who has a competitive spirit, and who just dreams about it? Where is the Broken Joe Golf camaraderie?

Earlier in the week, we had two Golfers say that they could not (would not) be playing in the final match of the year. Joe T and Nic.

Joe T had said that he probably would not be playing in the Winter Classic because it would be too cold. It wouldn't be much of a challenge if the Winter Classic were played in July. Joe T could also be in mourning, I mean he is a NY sports fan. The Yankees fell apart in the ALCS, and the Jets were embarrassed by the NE Patriot's on Monday night football, 33 to 0. It was so bad that Sam Darnold, the Jets Quarterback, even claimed to see ghosts. Well, at least Joe T did not claim that he could not play because of Holloween.

Nic…, I can't believe that Nic is still upset about the President's Cup, but what can you do? Nic will just be missing again.

Change 2:

And now, on Thursday night, Jon says that he can't play either. He is taking a page from Dan and Dave's playbooks and is moving in with his mother in law and, oh yea, and "it's going to rain on Sunday…"

The really question is who is going to call out before Sunday and who just isn't going to show up?

Change 3

Chris C and Cody informed us on Friday morning that they too were out. We are now down 31% of our of Golfer...

Usually I have trouble finding a golf course at the end of the year, this year I'm have trouble finding committed Golfers. Rock said it best, "Sad". Steve was happy to hear that people were not coming because he felt like his chances got better. I like his attitude.

The fact is that these five golfers probably weren't going to win anyway. The Mass Lottery says "You can't win if you don't play but you can't lose either" but I think they have have lost a little bit of our respect.

Groups and Tee Times:

Because Joe is the 2018 Winter Classic Champion, he will lead us off at Agawam Golf Course on Sunday, October 27th, 2019.

Group One – 8:00 Cart One: Joe & Dave Cart Two: Jake & Bryan Group Two – 8:08 Cart Three: Chris & Rey Cart Four: Rock & Dan Group Three – 8:16 Cart Five: Steve and Dan Cart Six: Matt That is, if everyone on this list shows up. Bring your cold-weather gear AND your rain gear, you're going to need it.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe Commissioner
