The Broken Joe Golf season, when compared to the rest of the World, did not quite come out smelling like the dumpster fire that I thought it might. I started to do a recap of the World and 2020 but it was way too depressing.

BJG managed to have its Winter Meeting, and for the most part, I think the groups really came together, putting the finishing touches on the schedule, handicaps, and rules. Then the pandemic hit and pushed the BJG season back by a total of 8 weeks (four rounds)

With each State having its own rules concerning how they were managing COVID-19, BJG had to start its season in CT or we would have had to walk the 18 holes. Hindsight being 20 / 20, that may not have been such a bad idea considering the binge eating and drinking that I was doing in those eight weeks.

2020 BJG Winners:

Pan Am – AM, AM, AM, AM - Joe Willie, Dan, Steve & Juan

The Misters – Joe

The Pretenders – Bryan (again)

Fathers & Uncles – Cody

Championship of the World – Rock (Cody wins the low sore)

The Chubby – Jake

American Freedom – Cody

BJG Championship – Juan (Rookie)

Race to Big Y (Dubai) – Joe Willie

Fed Up Cup, Round One – Cody

Fed Up Cup, Round Two – Harry (Rookie)

Legends of Tomorrow, Losers of Today - Steve

Fed Up Cup Tour Champion – Harry (Rookie)

Rider Cup – Team Matty Ice: Matt, Adam, Bryan, Dave, Joe, Juan, Nic, & Rey

Winter Classic – Rey (again)

All in all, it was a pretty good season, with 15 out of 17 golfers winning or at least winning a team event in 2020. Well, except Chris and Jon, they were left out in the cold.

We watched Cody shoot in the 70s three times, and we saw the “Miracle on Grass” when Joe came back after scoring a 14 on a par 3 to make it to the Fed Up Cup Tour Finals.

We had a very competitive Final Four, which came down to the final hole, and we had a great battle between our two Rookies. For the first time in BJG history, we had Rookies winning a Major and the Tour Championship. Plus, our Rookies are a great addition to our group.

We had a group fail to turn in a scorecard, and we had a group forget to pay their bar tab. We had good weather, but we did not have much time for camaraderie.

As we get ready for what may be a modified version of Thanksgiving, I want to say “Thank You” for being a part of Broken Joe Golf.

In the coming weeks, I will be posting information concerning the schedule, handicaps, rules with some new concepts and ideas.

We also need to get an idea if we have any new members for the 2021 season. I will need to work out their handicaps and figure out how that total number of golfers will impact our schedule. If you know of someone wanting to play next year, send me their name, handicap (if known), and average score.

Stay Safe and...

Respectfully

Broken Joe,

Commissioner
