What should have been an exciting day, with 19 BJG players coming back to play together, turned into another cluster f**k as people found other things to do at the last minute.

It’s not like I got the blog post out late, in fact, it went out on Tuesday so we would not have any last-minute issues.

We were supposed to have the top 8 golfers playing in the AMC Championship for the honor to move to the final FedUp Cup round. We were supposed to have 7 golfers to play for the 9th spot in the Legends of Tomorrow, and last but not least, we were supposed to have 3 BJG golfers playing for the “Lonesome Loser” plus a new Golfer for the 2022 season.

Harry has been out most of the year to attend the academy, and Chris was out due to injury.

The first sign of things to come was when Rock texted me on Friday afternoon saying that he was out. When Saturday night arrived, the flood gates opened and everyone remembered they had somewhere else to be on Sunday.

Rey – Saturday 6:42pm - Out

Matty – 5:09pm and again at 6:43pm - Out and still Out

Matt T – 6:54pm - Out

Bryan – 7:01pm - Out

And last but not least, Dustin – Sunday 7:33am - Out

Jon & Nic are total no-shows, and I find out EJ doesn’t read the blog and never invited Alex to play. Out of 19 Golfers, only 10 actually played and only 8 turned in a scorecard.

Dan and Dave are late for their 8:23 tee which moved the only two players for the “Legends of Tomorrow” to the 2nd tee time and behind the first group of 4.

I did feel bad for Juan and Tim because the first group used the full 12 minutes to look for for 4 wayward balls on the 3rd hole.

The next time I saw Juan and Tim was when the first group was playing the 4th hole, and they were enjoying the sunshine and freedom on the 5th hole. never did see or hear from Juan or Tim again nor did they turn in a scorecard…

I did text Juan but I guess he changed his number because he never texted me back. Just one more thing to make this Sunday one of my special days.

But I digress… Instead of making this about the people who did not show up, let's talk about golf.

Southampton CC - First of all, Southampton County Club is no joke and it made me realize that while it was nice to play golf courses back to back, it doesn’t prepare you for the harder courses.

Southampton CC can be a brutal course with narrow fairways and lots of trees and woods. To make matters a little worse, I felt like they had moved all of the white tee boxes back to where the blues are normally, and the pin placements were tough.

To add insult to injury, the carts are crap and the cart paths are worst than the streets of Springfield. On a good note, they had re-paved the cart paths on the 1, 2, 9, and 10 holes.

EJ and Joe came out and played the week before so they at least had an idea how bad this would be. Joe shot a 122 and EJ shot a 117 (with his handicap)

Front Nine Scores:

Adam – 48.5 (54)

Joe – 52 (52)

Joe T 52 (52)

Cody – 52.5 (45)

Dave – 53 (50)

Jake – 54 (52)

Dan – 63.5 (68)

EJ – 66 (75)

All in all, the scores were once again very tight except for Dan and EJ. Their run was probably over based on the front nine scores. Dan was just happy to be invited back to the Playoffs and EJ's Cinderella story was starting to crumble but he did make it to the 2nd Round of the Playoffs and won himself a trophy.

Back Nine:

Adam continues to play “Steady Eddie" golf and he is pretty straight all day. Adam did what you needed to do to play well here. Anything left or right is asking for trouble and possibly a lost ball.

Adam shoots a 44.5 (50) on the back to secure his spot in the next round.

Dave, who was beaten by Adam at the Putt Off during the first round, was brought back to life like Lazarus, to play the 2nd Round when Rey dropped out. Dave shoots a 46 (43) to secure a spot in the finals.

Joe T played mediocre golf for most of the year but saved just enough to come in third and make it to the Final Four. Joe T shoots a 51 to secure the 3rd spot.

Dan plays much better golf on the back nine and scores a 48.5 (53) but it is too little too late.

EJ woos continues and he shoots another 66 (75) and says goodbye to the Playoffs.

That just leaves Cody, Jake, and Joe for the final spot and a chance to become the 2021 FedUp Cup Champion.

After 15 Holes, the scores are:

Joe – 86

Cody – 89

Jake – 93

16th Hole: Joe is struggling, and shoots an 8, Cody gets a 5 and Jake gets a par (4). Is that Joe opening the door...?

Joe – 94

Cody – 94

17th Hole: Jake gets another par and is “playing better golf”. Joe gets a 6 and Cody gets a 7.

Joe – 100

Cody -101

Jake – 101

18th and final hole - Joe loses all four wheels but he pushes on to finish the last hole with an 8.

Cody comes back with a par, 4 and Jake does the impossible and gets his birdie 3 AND earns the last spot in the BJG FedUp Cup Finals.

Jake – 104

Cody – 105

Joe – 108

Just like for most of the year, we once again had some drama right to the very end.

Final Scores:

1st Place: Adam - 93 (104)

2nd Place: Dave - 99 - (93)

3rd Place: Joe T - 103 (103)

4th Place: Jake - 104 (100)

*** CUTLINE***

Cody - 105 (90)

Joe - 108 (108)

Dan - 112 (121)

EJ - 132 (150)

Congratulations to Adam for his first victory and trophy. It has been a long time coming, but every year, Adam continues to “play better golf” and it was good to see him rewarded with this trophy.

Adam, Dave, Joe T, and Jake are this year’s Final Four winners and will now compete on Oct 3rd at Cedar Knob County Club in Somers, CT.

Who will be the 2021 BJG Fed Up Cup Champion?

Respectfully,

Broken Joe
