Broken Joe Golf was established during our very first Florida golf trip in 2014.
In those days, I was not the champion that you see today. In fact, I was awful… On one particular day, I finally hit a decent shot only to crest the little hill to see a large pond. Guess where my ball went. I was depressed and disappointed. My brother looked at me and said that I looked “broken” and that is how I went from “Joe Safety” to “Broken Joe”.
Once we got back home, I started thinking about creating an organized golf league, after all, we were already playing a lot of golf. Slowly but surely, we had a schedule, Majors, trophies, shirts, and a website. 2023 will be our 10th year and that is kind of impressive.
In 2023, our mission is to have a smooth, fun-filled, competitive golf season.
I would like to welcome back: Alex, Adam, Bryan, Cody, Dustin, EJ, Jason, Joe T, Rey and Rock. Right now, we have 11 Golfers, but our goal will be to start the season with 12.
Yes, it seems that the information regarding Rey going to LIV Golf may have been incorrect. My Bad. From what I understand, Rey is waiting for his baseball schedule... I guess Rey doesn't have my number, but the good news is that Rey is not "OUT" yet.
Cody will once again be our Rules Official.
Joe T will once again be our Tee Time Coordinator.
Since Dan has not renewed his membership for the 2023 golf season, I am asking that Alex take on the task of Fiscal Coordinator. The Fiscal Coordinator will collect the membership fees and reimburse the Commissioner for the costs to run Broken Joe Golf.
Schedule – The 2023 Draft Schedule was already posted on 1/4/23, and so far I have not heard any complaints.
Format - Last year we tried to use an NFL- type format with divisions and wild card playoffs. I thought it was great but unless we have 12 golfers, it just will not work. If we have less than 12 golfers, we will go back to an individual event point system.
Rules - Yes, I have been a hard ass when it comes to the rules but for me, that is the only way to ensure we have fair competition on a level playing field. With that said, we can discuss some changes. This is what I found online as a small way to pry open that door.
https://www.golfdigest.com/gallery/photos-reasonable-rules Just don’t expect too much, too soon.
1. What one BJG rule would you like to see changed in 2023?
Golf Courses & Tee Times - Golf course green fees have been going up ever since COVID came to town and this is one of the things we will have to address and confront.
My intent is to not chase tee times or golf courses. We pick a golf course, and we stick with that golf course unless we have no choice but to change golf courses. That means we may have to play earlier or later than expected.

2.. Name two golf courses that you would like to see us play in 2023.
Broken Joe Golf Costs - Every year, we have the same costs. Usually, the big difference is how big is the Winter Meeting / BJG Awards Ceremony.

Membership Fee - I don’t believe the Broken Joe Golf fees need to change from what they have been for the past few years.
Membership Renewal - $60.00
First-Time Membership - $80.00
Handicaps - Last year, I found a PGA golf handicap website, and I have input our last three years of scores. The handicaps seemed to work well during last year’s playoffs. Here are the starting 2023 Handicaps.

The Broken Joe Golf website will have all the information concerning the golf course, tee times, and assigned cart assignments. The website is www.brokenjoegolf.com
After the blog has been posted, any adjustments that need to be made to the event or information that needs to be sent to the group will be done by Text Messages. Each of you will be provided with a list of the Golfer’s first name and telephone number (if needed).
Each of you will be given a 2023 BJG Rule Book. Please read it carefully. If you have any questions, please ask Cody. We will cover the rules in detail at the Winter Meeting
Over the next 50 days, I will be putting draft plans out on our website.
Each of you now has enough information to help shape the 2023 BJG season which we will discuss in more detail at the Broken Joe Golf Winter Meeting on March 11th, 2023, which happens to be National COVID Day.
