Not only did Cody win his 2nd Major, the American Freedom Open, but he once again dominated the competition by “playing better golf” and shooting a two-over Par 74. This is the second time that Cody has found the 70’s.

Sunday Funday:

Rey told me on Tuesday that he was miss this week’s Major. Then on Sunday morning, Juan texted us early Sunday morning, realizing he would not be playing on Sunday.

ree

Matt called in to take a “personal” day and we still haven't heard from Harry.

ree

Giving that we went from 18 Golfers to 14 golfers wasn’t bad enough but, the Golf Course wanted us to start early. As usual, we make the best of the situation and continue forward.

Front Nine:

Cody was the man on the front with his 38 but, Joe was hosting his own putting clinic with three clutch 20-foot putts. Had it not been for the seven on the 7th hole Par 3, Joe may have been looking at his own 38.

Other notables on the front: Bryan comes to the American Freedom Open wearing shorts for the first time in 2 years (that's how you know its going to be hot).

ree

This ends up being a good call because Bryan plays from the pond on the 9th hole. To add insult to injury, Bryan's loses his 62 degree wedge but a woman on the 7th tee finds it as we are finishing up on the 9th hole.

Bryan is not alone as Dan finds his ball in just about the same spot.

Jon has an epic breakdown on the 9th hole and scores a 15.

Front Nine Scores

Cody – 38

Joe – 43

Dave – 44

Rock – 46

Jake – 48

Bryan – 50

Chris – 50

Adam – 52

Joe Willie – 52

Steve – 54

Dan – 55

Nic – 55

Jon – 71

Except for Jon, I think the scores are pretty good.

Back Nine:

Just when you think Cody cannot play any better, he proves you wrong and shoots par on the back nine. Joe Willie reminds us why he is at the top of the leaderboard but shooting a 43.

Rock continues to play well and, while Bryan is struggling, he does shoot under 50 on the back, even with his anger management issues. Bryan may need to take advice from his putter cover.

ree

Jake runs into trouble with the last two holes making a triple bogey on both. Dave has his own issues on the 11th and 12th holes. Chris also has trouble on the 12th.

Joe continues his putting clinic on the 10th and, 11th holes but, then the wheels come off. Joe finds himself struggling with another Par 3 and not being able to finish strong.

Adam adds two strokes from his front nine sore but, more importantly, he doesn’t have a big blowup hole. Dan had his blowup hole on the 11th but, at least he stayed dry.

Steve started the back going the wrong way with a few lost and wet balls.

Nic had a nice hole-out from just over 100 yards away to save his 11 on the 11th hole but then gets a 13 on the 12th hole.

ree

The only holes Jon didn’t blow up were the 10th and the 14th.

For the 2nd round in a row, it was HOT as hell.

*** CUTLINE***

13th Place – Rey – 97

14th Place – Juan – 50

15th Place – Jon – 45

15th Place – Nic – 45

17th Place – Matt - 23

Joe Willie continues to be the man to beat but, his lead is now down to just 17.5 points. At this point, Cody is probably the only one with a realistic chance to catch Joe Willie. For the rest of us, we just want to make the top 12 and move on to the first round of the Fed Up Cup.

There is always some drama at the end of the regular season and, this year is no exception.

The next round is going to be very interesting and, someone is going to have their feelings hurt by missing the cut. Harry, who is sitting currently at 10th place and Rey, who is currently at 13th place, have both missed a Major. Chris, who is sitting on the cutline is going to have to play well. Yes, it is going to be very interesting at the cutline.

Juan, who missed 2 Majors, along with Jon, Nic, and Matt are probably going to miss the cut but could still play "spoiler" to players near the cutline.

After the BJG Championship, we will know who the two last-place golfers are and, they will be the Team Captains for this year’s Rider Cup.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe
