COVID-19, One Year Later

One year later and COVID-19 is still playing havoc with my ability to effectively run Broken Joe GOLF.

I knew that on March 3rd, 2021, Gov Baker’s Phase 3 Step 2 has opened restaurants 100%, as long as there are only six people at a table, 6 feet between tables, and you only stay for 1.5 hours.

What I am just now realizing is that Phase 3 Step 2 DID NOT make any changes to the “gatherings” rule. Indoor gatherings are still limited to 10 people, and outdoor gatherings are limited to 25 people.

Governor Baker also issued an Order requiring face masks or cloth face coverings in all public places, whether indoors or outdoors, even where they are able to maintain 6 feet of distance from others. Masks or face coverings are encouraged but not required for children between the ages of 2 and 5.

The exemption to that rule would be eating in a restaurant...

That’s right, to time to vote…again.

1. We could still meet at the Lake House.

2. I could meet with the Committee Chairs and clean up some loose ends.

I have to be honest with you, both of these options seem painful.

At this point, the least painful is probably meeting with each Committee Chair and then write about this meeting in a blog.

Since we could have six people at a table, we could have the Commissioner, 4 Committee Chairpersons, and a “member at large” from the remaining membership. This “member at large” would need to be voted in. Just a thought, but I do enjoy the fact that you are all so involved in this process.

Right now, I am thinking option 2. The Winter Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, March 14th. You have until then to speak to or text (I know they love text messages) the Committee Chairpersons and let your voices be heard concerning the schedule, handicaps, rules, and fees.

At the Winter Meeting, I was going to offer a new vote for handicaps. A or B.

This really is your last chance to not let Dave have +3, handicap, Joe with a -1 handicap and Chris with a -6 handicap.

The only other major issue is the 2021 fees, and I think the simple question is; Do you want an End of Season Awards Dinner or not?

Either way, let me know because we need to get this show on the road. Voting starts now and closes in 24 hours.

Your Text Vote should be:

Winter Meeting - 1 or 2

Handicap - A or B

End of Season Awards Dinner - Yes or No

PS - I just read that CT's gathering rule is 25 indoors and 50 people outdoors. If anyone knows of a place near by place, please let me know.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe

Commissioner
