Houston, We Have a Problem

Just about two months ago, Thanksgiving to be exact, I asked for information about any new BJG members for the 2021 season, but I only heard from Adam. Ding
Two weeks ago, as part of the New Year’s day blog, I assigned golfers jobs so that they felt part of the “process”. Ding.
I also asked, again, if there would be any new members in BJG in the 2021 season because I was working on the schedule, handicaps, and fees. The actual number of golfers will have an effect on all of this work. Ding
Just to find out who was actually reading the blog, I threw in a question about how far each of you hit your 5 iron. If you recall, I was working on my research concerning which tee boxes each of us should be playing from. Ding Ding Ding Ding
To sweeten the pot, I offered a free gift to the first person to send me their 5 iron distance. Ding.
The funny part was that I published the blog early that morning with the intent of telling everyone that the blog was posted around 8 am but, work got crazy, and I forgot. Ding.
That is until I received a text from Steve at 2:18 pm – “180”. Ding Ding
I was confused at first, and then I realized that Steve had read the blog, and sent me his 5 iron distance. Ding.
I then quickly sent out a text to the group, letting everyone know that there was a new blog post at 2:42 pm. Ding.
At 2:46 pm, I get a text from Juan saying he didn’t know how far he can hit his 5 iron. Ding. That answer is good enough for me. Juan then guessed “175”. Ding
Next, I hear from Rock at 2:47 pm. His answer is 200ish. Ding.
Matt is next at 2:48 pm with his answer of 150. Ding
Chris, at 2:55, comments about the blog but he did not bother to tell me how far he hits his 5 iron. Maybe he is not sure… Ding
Joe T is 5th with his answer of 160 – 170 coming in at 3:15 pm. Ding
Adam is in at 6th with his answer of 165. Ding.
Up to this point, everyone has been sending me a private text, Adam is the first to share his 5 iron distance with the group and I’m thinking everyone will have a clue now. Ding.
Ding Jake catches on, making him 7th with a 5 iron distance of 175. Ding
DING DING Nic, at 8th, has by far the best answer at 3:51 pm, “40 yards to the right”. Ding. He should bet a prize for being the most honest. Ding
Ding Back on an individual text message, Dave is 9th with 170. Ding
THE NEXT DAY ding ding
Ding At 10:09 am I receive a text from Harry. Harry is 9th with an answer of 180 Hard Hook. Ding Ding
Ding Cody answers at 11:05 am with 190. Cody is 10th and I still have not received an answer from Bryan, Chris, Dan, or Jon. Ding
Ding Ding I was surprised that Chris did not send me his 5 iron distance when he made his comments about the blog 13 minutes after I posted the blog. Just goes to show you that “reading is fundamental”. Ding
I did see Chris on Sunday and he said he didn’t know he was supposed to answer the 5 iron thing. Ding Ding Ding
Ding I also saw Jon on Sunday and he said that DING his phone was going off so often that he lost track of the blog text. Ding DING
Today is Friday, January 15, 2021, and I still have not heard from Bryan or Dan. Ding DING Ding
Ding With the pandemic getting stronger, I know Dan Ding isn’t planning to attend any parties so what is he doing instead of reading the blog???? Ding
Ding DING I am not surprised that Bryan did not respond, hell, Bryan did not even wish me a happy 60th birthday. Ding
Ding Sometimes I think some of you only Ding see the Blog by accident, and with some understanding that there is a website with some writing on it. Ding Ding
To be honest with you, DING I think the biggest reason that people DING don’t always read the texts is because of the DING number of texts that come through the DING BJG group text messages. I have to admit DING that my wife makes me put my phone DING on “do not disturb” after 5 pm because she cannot DING handle my phone making all of that noise. DING
DING DING DING
I have to go.... I need to put in my Fanduel NBA, NFL, NASCAR, SOCCER, and DRONE RACING lineups....
Listen, I understand that BJG is about camaraderie but everyone at BJG should not have to be bombarded with an average of 700 text messages a day. Let's try to keep the BJG text line down to a minimum and maybe start a side “Fanduel” group text.
After all, it is 2021, how hard can it be, and do we really want to give people a reason not to read the blog… I mean, besides the fact that I write it.
PS:
So…Steve won a box of Wilson golf balls...

and Juan is the pround owner of Sharper Image Blue Glasses that are supposed to help you find lost golf balls.

From Sharper Image’s website:
“Are you constantly losing golf balls in tall grass and under shady trees? Golf Ball Finding Glasses have a one-piece, tinted blue lens that filters out foliage and grass, making white balls stand out against any dark background. They help you save time, minimize penalty strokes, and cut ball losses. And, you’ll be the hero of the day when you spot your buddies’ errant golf balls.”
Now everyone will want to ride with Juan.
Hold on a second, Jon is texting me... He is showing me that he has 38 missed text messages from BJG today. I don't feel bad for Jon, I had to actually read all of them.
Respectfully,
Broken Joe
