Friday was HOT in the 90s, but Saturday was cold and only getting colder as the day went on. I figured Sunday was going to be the same as Saturday, and went with long pants and a wind jacket. I also had some cold-weather gear in my bag, just in case.

Four of us decided to start the day right by having breakfast in Bloomfield.

As I was driving to breakfast, I realized that I didn’t go to Joe T’s house to pick up the Closet to the Pin equipment. I’m thinking that there must be a place nearby to pick up some small cheap tape measures…

Breakfast was pretty good, and Cody finds two tape measures in his car. Crisis avoided.

Next, we head to the golf course, and after we pay the $85, we head to the practice facility.

10 am rolls around and it's time to hit the course. The Starter was a pretty cool guy and he explains a little bit about the course, the layout, and the history.

Front Nine:

It's chilly, the sky is grey, and it feels like it is only going to get colder.

The rough is deep and thick, but the vegetation outside of the rough is brutal. Good luck finding and hitting those balls. While the fairways were open for the most part, the fairways got narrower the closer you got to the green, and the greens were kind of small.

Front Nine Scores:

1st Place: Cody – 33 (38)

2nd Place: Jason – 34 (43)

3rd Place: Joe – 39 (50)

4th Place: Adam – 41 (56)

5th Place: Alex – 42 (60)

6th Place: EJ – 43 (61)

7th Place: Cam – 44 (51)

7th Place: Dustin – 44 (62)

For this being our first time competing on this new course, I think the scores were pretty close.

Back Nine:

The weather wasn’t getting any better, in fact, on the 11th hole it started to rain hard, but fortunately for us, not for long. Somewhere around the 13th hole, the sun came out for about 2 minutes and then it went back to cloudy and cold.

Back Nine Scores:

1st Place: Jason – 37 (47)

1st Place: Adam 37 (53)

3rd Place: Cody – 38 (43)

3rd Place: EJ – 38 (56)

3rd Place: Joe – 38 (50)

6th Place: Dustin – 39 (57)

7th Place: Cam – 41 (48)

8th Place: Alex – 42 (60)

Some issues start in the parking lot as Alex is trying to figure out the scores.

One of the issues was trying to figure out if the number on the scorecard was a 5 or a 6. Once we figured that out we could move on, and realize we had a tie.

I grabbed the trophy, and we move to the putting green. My plan is to choose 2 holes that are on opposite sides of the putting green. I put a tee in the center because I want them to putt from opposite directions so that no one has an unfair advantage by seeing the line.

Jason putts first to the far hole and is just a little long. Cody putts in the same direction, but I don’t have time to correct him, so I let him putt. Cody is a little long too, but he is closer to the hole than Jason.

Now originally, the idea was that they had to sink the putt, but after they putt, I hear that we should let them “finish the hole” but what I hear is Mortal Combat "FINISH HIM"

I again think "Why not”, they are close enough to make it, and then we can try again.

Jason steps up, hits his putt, and sinks it. Cody is next. Cody hits his putt, but it is not firm enough, and it turns left just before the hole, giving Jason the win.

Final Scores:

1st Place: Cody – 71 (81)

1st Place: Jason – 71 (90)

3rd Place: Joe – 77 (100)

4th Place: Adam – 78 (109)

5th Place: EJ – 81 (117)

6th Place: Dustin – 83 (119)

7th Place: Alex – 84 (120)

8th Place: Cam – 85 (99)

Fathers & Uncles Invitational Points

1st Place: Jason – 37 Points *

2nd Place: Cody – 33 Points

3rd Place: Joe – 29 Points

4th Place: Adam – 25 Points

5th Place: EJ – 20 Points

6th Place: Dustin – 16 Points

7th Place: Alex – 12 Points

Race to Big Y (Dubai) Points

1st Place: Cody – 95 Points

2nd Place: Adam – 87 Points

3rd Place: EJ – 71 Points

4th Place: Dustin – 68 Points

5th Place: Jason – 66 Points

6th Place: Alex – 62 Points

7th Place: Joe – 47 Points

8th Place: Joe T – 40 Points

9th Place: Cam – 37 Points

Cody takes the outright lead as Adam falls to 2nd.

EJ and Dustin swap places.

Jason moves up two spots, as Alex continues to fall.

Joe finally starts to make his move from last place to 7th.

Joe T falls from 6th to 8th, and Cam is now bringing up the rear.

Closet to the Pins

No one hits the green on the first “Closet to the Pin” even though it was only about 125 yards away.

Joe is the only one to hit the green on our second “Closet to the Pin” so he finally makes a little money.

Again, congratulations to Jason on his first Major win.

I am working on how we address ties in a quicker, easier manner.

Please give Alex time and space to add up the scorecards. Once Alex is finished, and if there are no issues, I will announce the winner and where each player finished.

Don’t forget, the “Championship of the World” is this Sunday at Pine Knoll in East Longmeadow. That blog post will go out tomorrow. The first tee is 9 am.
