It is almost like Joe had gone back in time.  This is what I wrote about Joe’s winning the 2023 Time Travelers:

“Joe was finally able to put a stop to the bleeding and get a little confidence back at the same time.  Airway’s at just 5,500 yards was the perfect distance for Joe to get back to his winning ways.”

We had been in the middle of a heat wave, and I fully expected the same to happen on Sunday, but Mother Nature had a surprise in store for us.

The morning turned out to be a bit cool and very foggy, with moisture in the air—not what I had planned.

Airways is a fun and interesting course. Everyone says Airway’s is a “short” course at 5,528 yards, but Agawam Municipal Golf Course is only 5,458 yards.

Rob’s son's baseball game was moved from Saturday to Sunday because of the weather.  I had JT as not playing this week, but it would have been nice to hear from him since I haven't seen JT since the Pretenders on 4/21/24. Hopefully, we will see JT at the American Freedom Open.

We also got a late Saturday text from James saying that he was sitting on a runway and may not make it back in time for the Time Travelers.

I started moving Groups around in my head but decided not to make any moves until we got closer to our Tee Times. At 6:34, James texted me to say he was on his way.  That’s commitment.

Front Nine:

1st Place:  James – 32 (39)

1st Place:  Matt – 32 (41)

3rd Place:  Adam – 33 (37)

4th Place:  Joe – 34 (46)

5th Place:  Stephen – 35 (46)

5th Place:  Rey – 35 (46)

7th Place:  Joe V – 36 (38)

8th Place:  Dustin – 37 (55)

8th Place:  EJ – 37 (55)

10th Place:  Mike – 38 (43)

11th Place:  Joe T – 41 (53)

The front is pretty wide open, but the greens are small, and there is usually water or woods behind them.  If you make a mistake, you will pay the price.

I was a little worried that our low-handicap golfers would chew this golf course up, but the scores are very tight, and I really think the handicaps are correct.

Adam had two birdies, and Joe T, Joe V, and Rey each scored their own. We also had five blow-up holes on the front.

The easiest holes on the front were the 1st and 8th holes, which played just half a stroke over Par. The Hardest Hole was the Par 4, 3rd hole, a serious dogleg right hole. As a group, we played this hole at 2.5 strokes over par.   As a group, we shot one under par 35 (45).

Back Nine:

1st Place:  Joe – 30 (43)

2nd Place:  Matt – 32 (41)

3rd Place:  Stephen – 33 (44)

3rd Place:  Joe V – 33 (35)

5th Place:  Rey - 34 (46)

6th Place:  James – 35 (43)

6th Place:  Adam – 35 (39)

6th Place:  Dustin – 35 (53)

6th Place:  Mike – 35 (40)

10th Place:  EJ – 36 (54)

11th Place:  Joe T – 39 (52)

Once again, the scores are VERY close, which is how it should be.

The back nine is much tighter than the front, and there are more trees and water to worry about.  It is also starting to get warm, but we are rolling right through the course.

This time, Matt made two birdies. Joe T, Joe V, and Adam made another birdie on the back nine, and we had only three blow-up holes.

The easiest hole on the back was the Par 5 11th, which played just 0.3 strokes over Par. The Hardest Hole was the Par 5, 16th hole, with a narrow window to the fairway stream and a pond in front of the green. As a group, we played this hole at 1.6 strokes over par. We shot 35 (45) as a group, with a final score of 70 (90).

Final Score:

1st Place:  Joe – 64 (89)

1st Place:  Matt – 64 (82)

3rd Place:  James – 67 (82)

4th Place:  Adam – 68 (76)

4th Place:  Stephen – 68 (90)

6th Place:  Joe V – 69 (73)

6th Place:  Rey – 69 (92)

8th Place:  Dustin – 72 (108)

9th Place:  EJ – 73 (109)

9th Place:  Mike – 73 (83)

11th Place:  Joe T – 80 (105)

Once again, we have a tie for 1st Place.  Out comes the John Daley coin, and Rey has the honor of the flip. Matt gets the call, and he decides to call HEADS. The coin hits the ground, and it is TAILS, giving Joe his very first win of the 2024 season and making Matt a bridesmaid again.

The Time Traveler Points:

We have another change at the top of the leaderboard. Matt is Number One again, moving from 2nd to 1st, while Rey falls from 1st to 2nd. Joe T remains in the third spot, and Joe moves up to 4th.

Mike drops a spot to 5th, and EJ stays at 6th. Adam and Stephen each move up to 7th and 8th, respectively. Rob drops farther from 7th to 9th.

James, Dustin, Joe V, and JT remain in the same spots: 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th.

Adam and James make some money by winning the Closest to the Pins.  Yes, I forgot to get a picture of them.

Next on the schedule is our third Major, the American Freedom Open, which we will play at Veterans Golf Course in Springfield on 7/14/24.

I hope you all enjoy the next couple of weeks off and have a Safe and Happy 4th of July.

 Respectfully

Broken Joe
