Jon, usually a guy that plays just to get outside and a for the comradery, really put in the hard work over the off-season by practicing and taking some lessons.

In years past, I would ask Jon if he wanted to play any “extra” golf and he would say “is it for points?”. I’d say no, and he would say “I’ll pass.” But in 2021, Jon must have played St Annes at least four times on his way to being our first Major winner of 2021.

As we got closer to the tee times, the more golfers we had dropping like flies. By the time we got to the tee boxes, we were missing 6 golfers. I finally had to rearrange the groupings because I just could not plug the holes anymore. With 6 missing golfers, that meant that there would be more points for the remaining 14 players, and some of us really needed those points.

After the issues at the Pan Am, I made it a point that we would not tee off until our scheduled tee times. Fortunately it looked like the rain would hold off until we were finishing up the back nine.

It was cloudy but the weather wasn’t too bad (yet) and some golfers were wearing shorts but eventually, the wind would pick up and the chill in the air would get much cooler.

Front Nine:

The front nine was tough and, as a group, we could only manage 5 pars and 1 birdie. The Par 5, 5th hole played the hardest with an average score of 8.21. The front nine average score was 56.7

It is nice to see Jon, Matt, and Adam at the top of the leaderboard. The question is, can they stay there. For the rest of us, it just means we will need to work harder... much harder.

Once again, congratulations to Jon on his hard work to get to the top.

Next on the schedule is the “Chubby Classic” which will be played on April 25th at Ledges Golf Course in South Hadley.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe
