It was a cold day for the Rider Cup, when I left my house it was only 29 degrees.
I arrive at 8:20 and there is a frost delay, but I don’t think any of us were expecting a 2-hour delay.
I was worried that Dan wasn't going to show. I had heard that Chris, Dave and Juan (vacation) were playing golf at the Springfield Country Club so it would only stand to reason that Dan would be their 4th.
At 9:15 Dan arrives. Dan may have been a little late and we did have a frost delay. Dan said he would play in the BJG Rider Cup, and he did just that. Dan is a man of his word.
Match One: 3-Man Scramble
Note: Initially when I finished our round of golf, EJ had some car trouble. When I went to the Clubhouse, only Team Rey was there. Rock, Bryan and Dan were nowhere to be found. I asked Rey if Rock had dropped off his score card ,but he said no. I later found Rock's scorecard on my windshield.
Team Rey (Rey, Cody & Jake) and Team Rock (Rock, Bryan & Dan) started from the Par 5, 12th hole.
Jake is surprised and a little disappointed that Rock did not choose him with his 2nd or 3rd pick, but I guess Rock was thinking outside the box.
Team Rock starts the first hole with a 7 and they are 2 back already. Team Rock manages to get one back after birding the 1st hole.
At the end of the first 9 holes Team Rock is down by one:
Team Rey – 36
Team Rock – 37
Team Rock gives up another stroke on the first hole of the final nine holes.
Team Rey gets a great eagle on the par 4, 8th hole, and Team Rock is now down by 4.
Team Rock birdies the 10th hole and is now down by 3 with one hole to play. Team Rey scores a bogey to Team Rock’s par but it is too little too late.
Team Rey – 34
Team Rock – 35
Final Score:
Team Rey – 70
Team Rock - 72
TEAM REY – 1
Team Rock - 0
Match Two: 2 Man Scramble
Team Rey (Jason & Dustin) and Team Rock (Joe and EJ) start on the 13th hole.
After completing the first 6 holes (13 – 18), Team Rock is up by one but there are 3 more holes before completing the first 9 holes.
After 6 holes, Jason is all warmed up, and crushes his drive on the 1st hole. The ball stop to within 4 feet of the pin for an eagle. Team Rock scores a bogey and just like that, they are down by two.
On the 2nd hole, Jason again hits a great 2nd shot. Once again, Team Rey has a short putt, this time for birdie. Team Rey is now up by three.
On the 3rd hole, Team Rey gets another birdie, and Team Rock is down by four to end the first nine holes.
Team Rock gets one back on the 4th hole, but the wheels start to fall off on Team Rock on the 6th hole when they score an ugly bogey after Joe couldn't get off the tee box, and EJ’s tee shot lands on the 7th hole green. Niether Joe or EJ could chip onto the green.
On the 7th hole, Joe’s tee shot goes in the water, and EJ tells the world that his father is “killing him".
Fortunately, Joe chips close, and they tie with a par, but Team Rock is still down by 4. Meanwhile, Dustin has found his groove, and is playing "better" golf.
On the 9th hole, Team Rock has trouble getting close to the water with their second shot, and must go for the green from the top of the hill. Joe ends up in the mud on the right side of the water, EJ crushes a 3 wood, and the ball comes to rest near the rocks between the 1st tee box and the 9th green. Team Rock finishes with a double bogey and is now down by 6.
Team Rock has the same problems on the 10th hole and is now down by 8.
On the final hole, Team Rock gives up one last stroke.
Team Rey wins with a final score of 78 to 87. Dustin finishes the last 6 holes by playing great golf.
TEAM REY – 2
Team Rock - 0
Congratulations to Team Rey for winning the 2022 BJG Rider Cup.

Next up on the schedule is our final 2022 event, the Winter Classic Championship, on Nov 13th, 2022. The golf course is still to be determined. Please let me know if you ARE NOT playing in the Winter Classic Championship.
