It was a cool but sunny morning, and the groups getting off the tee boxes were slightly backed up, but the Starter was good, and everyone waited before teeing off.

Our first tee time was at 8:00, but JT had not arrived at 7:46. I started to dream that I would make it to the Finals for the first time in a long time, but JT answered the phone to say he was just a couple of minutes out.

Rey was first off the tee box and had a nice shot onto the fairway.  Adam, JT, and Rob were not as fortunate.  And with that, the 2024 BJG Tour Championship has begun.

Front Nine:

1st Place:  Rey 38 - (48)

2nd Place:  JT 39 - (46)

3rd Place:  Adam – 40 (44)

4th Place:  Rob – 41 (51)

The scores are tight, but we still have nine more holes to go.  The back is much narrower, with lots of trees on either side of the fairway.  This is how the Tour Championship should be.

Back Nine: (Full handicaps are included in these scores)

After the 12th hole, Rob has a 2-stroke lead over Rey, a 5-stroke over JT, and an 8-stroke lead over Adam.

Rob – 45

Rey - 47

JT - 50

Adam – 53

After the 14th hole, Rob still had a 2-stroke lead over Rey, but Adam had caught up to JT.

Rob – 54

Rey – 56

JT – 60

Adam – 60

After the 15th hole, Rob lost a stroke to Rey, but he was still up by one.  JT and Adam were still all tied up, and they were only four strokes back of Rob.

Rob – 61

Rey – 62

JT – 65

Adam – 65

After the 16th Hole, Rob gets a little breathing room back, and Rey is behind by two strokes again.  Adam now takes a one-stroke lead over JT and is 3rd.

Rob – 65

Rey – 67

Adam – 69

JT – 70

Heading into the FINAL HOLE, Rob has a 2-stroke lead over both Rey AND Adam. JT is bringing up the rear and is behind by three.

Rob – 71

Rey – 73

Adam – 73

JT – 74

After the last putt goes into the cup on the 18th Hole, Rob scores a 6. Rey, Adam, and JT finish with Par (4).

Final Score:

1st Place: Rob – 77 (97)

1st Place: Rey – 77 (97)

1st Place: Adam – 77 (85)

4th Place: JT – 78 (92)

Yes, you read that right; we have a three-way tie for 1st Place, with JT being the odd man out by just one stroke.

We stayed around the clubhouse for a few minutes, thinking about how we should do the playoff.  There was a little talk about picking a number or flipping a coin, but this was the Tour Championship, which needed to have a more competitive finish.

We decide to do a Putt Off on the Practice Green.  Rob, Rey, and Adam grab their trusty putter and a lucky ball.

I intended to put three tees in the ground and have them all putt at the same time, but the putting green was a little small with a Hump on the left edge.  I was afraid their balls could hit each other if they were all putting at the same time and at the same hole.

While I was contemplating my next move, Rob, the Champion of the World, without any fear in his voice, said he would go first, and he hit his putt.  Unfortunately, he hit it a little too firm, and it rolled just off the back of the green.

Rey would go next.  Rey had a decent putt, but he had left a little meat on the bone.

Adam was last, and I think he could taste the victory, but alas, Adam did not quite hit the putt as firmly as he wanted.  Surprisingly, Adam’s putt ran further than expected, but at the end of the day, Rey was closest and victorious.

Congratulations to our Final Four for an outstanding finish and to Rey for claiming his first FED UP CUP Trophy.

Next on the schedule is the BJG Rider Cup on 10/20/24.  I think many people are excited to see the teams and compete for the next trophy.
