This is not how I thought the day would go.

I had gotten an early jump on the blogs for the second round of the Playoffs and the Legends of Tomorrow. It felt pretty good to finally be ahead of the power curve.  I almost sent the blogs out on Tuesday morning because they were ready to go.

Joe V texted us around 10:30 am on Tuesday that he was back and ready to play in the Legends of Tomorrow. I was glad to see him back, but I did not think we would see him again in 2024.

I move Groups 1 and 2 around a little and find a spot for Joe V.

On Saturday night around 10:30, Stephen texts us that he is sick and will not be playing on Sunday. With Stephen out, I can move Joe V back to Group 3 and someone from Group 1 to Group 2. I can’t move EJ because his son has a soccer game at 2 p.m., and he needs to leave right after golf.

EJ and I get to the course about an hour early, per our regular routine. It looks like it will be a cool and sunny day.

We go into the Clubhouse, and the man behind the desk tells us that our first tee time is 8:24.  This is odd because all week, I kept thinking the first tee time was 8:16….

Matt is next to arrive at the golf course.  I want to wait for everyone to arrive before I give him his BIG CHECK and his $50 Big Y Gift Card, but the more I think about it, the more I think that I should get it done before the day gets crazy.

I look at the clock, and we are still missing a few people, and I am starting to get nervous. I tried calling Rey and Mike, but no one answered. Rey walks up a couple of minutes later and tells me his tee time is 8:40.  I say no, it's at 8:32.  I checked the blog, and I find that all of the tee times are off by 8 minutes.  I started to rack my brain about how that could happen when they called our first group to the tee box.

At this point, Mike is a No-Call/No-Show, and I need to move Matt back up to Group 1. It's just going to be what it’s going to be…

Front Nine:

1st Place:  Rey – 34 (44)

2nd Place:  JT – 37 (44)

3rd Place:  Adam – 38 (42)

4th Place:  EJ – 42 (59)

5th Place:  Matt – 44 (51)

6th Place:  Joe – 46 (58)

We quickly realized that the course had been set up for a golf tournament.  The tee boxes are way back, the greens are fast, and the pin placement can be brutal.

Rey takes a quick lead, but JT and Adam are hanging on.  Matt and Joe will need to play better golf on the other side if they want their season to continue.

Adam has the lone birdie on the front nine.

The easiest hole was the 4th Hole, Par 3, playing at almost one stroke over par.  The hardest hole was the 8th Hole, Par 4, playing at two and a half strokes over par.

As a group, we shot four over par, 40 (50)

Back Nine:

1st Place:  Rey – 39 (49)

1st Place:  Joe -39 (52)

3rd Place:  Adam – 40 (44)

4th Place:  JT – 47 (54)

5th Place:  Matt – 50 (57)

DNF – EJ

Rey continues to play well, and Joe finally finds his swing with his trusty 4 Hybrid.  Again, Adam is hanging tough and trying not to give up any ground.

JT and Matt are struggling, but sometimes it just happens like that, especially at BJG.

At the 15th hole, EJ quits and posts a DNF.  In EJ’s defense, his son did have a soccer game at 2 p.m., and he had the family car. That was an easy choice to make and a choice most of us would have made.  Of course, the 13 on the 12th hole may have helped with his decision.

Southampton would not give up any birdies to this group on the back nine.

The easiest hole was the 14th Hole, Par 4, which was almost one stroke over par. The hardest hole was the 12th Hole, Par 5, which was almost three strokes over par.

As a group, we shot seven over par, 43 (51), for a total score of 83 (101).

FINAL SCORES

1st Place:  Rey – 73 (93)

2nd Place:  Adam – 78 (86)

3rd Place:  JT – 84 (98)

--------------------------------------------------------------

4th Place:  Joe – 85 (110)

5th Place:  Matt – 94 (108)

-----------------------------

DNF – EJ.

DNP - Mike

Remember, scores are not official until they are entered into the computer.

Initially, I thought Joe and JT had tied, but obviously, I was having some problems counting. After making a mess of the coin toss, I am happy to say that we have our three Golfers who will be moving on to the 2024 BJG Tour Championship.

Congratulations to Rey for the victory and to Adam and JT for moving on to the 2024 BJG Tour Championship.

But that was not the end of the day for the Commissioner.  Next on the agenda was James and JT, as the 2024 BJG Rider Cup Captains, to pick their teams.  I am happy to say that their decisions seemed well thought out, and they are ready to compete on 10/20/24.

Next on the schedule is the 2024 BJG Tour Championship which is scheduled to be played at Cedar Knob Golf Course in Somers, CT on 10/6/24.  If you did not make the cut but are still interested in playing golf on 10/6/24, please text me ASAP.  Joe T will start working on Tee Times on Thursday.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe

Commissioner
