The Championship of the World was always meant to be a chance to have a little fun, to take a break from the big golf courses and the stress of serious competition. It also gives us a chance to practice some camaraderie by having a social hour after the round.
Yes, the Championship of the World was a chance for us to get together for 3 hours and have a little fun but if you thought that this was the week to take some time off, you would be sadly mistaken. And yes, that is done by design.
The Championship of the World has the potential to be worth 8 points for the individual that can win their division, have the lowest overall score AND win the 18th hole to claim the title of Champion of the World.
We knew that Cody, Rey, and Juan were not going to play this round. Cody already had a golf tournament to play in. Rey, Juan, and Harry were heading to New York to watch the Red Sox once again get their asses handed to them, this time by a score of 13 to 2. The only person happy about that would be Joe T.

As is usually the case at BJG HQs before a golf event, I was patiently waiting for the last-minute phone calls telling me that someone could not make it.
Bryan was the first one to text on Thursday. I don’t know where he was, but he knew he was not going to make it back in time for golf.
Jake was next. I had heard rumors that Jake would not be playing golf on Sunday, but I did not hear from him, so there was that. About an hour and 15 minutes before golf, Chris reminds the Fanduel NASCAR group to get their picks in. Jake responds by saying that he will be watching the race in person… in Loudon, NH. I remind Jake that is a long drive from Pine Knoll…

Rock was next. He texted me about an hour before tee time, saying he was not going to make it to Pine Knoll because he was now going on a walking tour. I hate when those walking tours pop up at the very last minute, but what are you going to do. The show must go on.
We are now down to 9 Golfers.
At tee time, it is a beautiful day. The temperature is about 70 degrees with no humidity and a slight breeze.
Normally it is hot as hell when we play Pine Knoll, but so far, this year was different.
The other thing that will be different this year is that Cody will not be winning this event. Everyone had a chance at glory..
Dumpster Fire (Dustin, EJ, and Alex) lead us off the first tee. A Few Good Men (Joe T, Joe, and Jason) are next, followed by Team Mediocrity (Adam and Dan), along with the sole surviving member of Dude, Where’s My Par, Dave.
Like last year, there was a group in front of us, wearing the traditional attire of jeans and tank tops. One of which explained to us that he was here to “fuck shit up”. At least they weren’t slow or stealing our water.

So much for the weather. By the 4th hole, you can feel the humidity cranking up, and by the time we get to the 11th hole, I am very happy that I bought water and ice, and we put the cooler at the 11th tee box.
Front Nine:
Joe T – 31
Joe – 32
Adam – 32
Dave – 33
Jason – 34
Dustin – 37
Dan – 38
Alex – 38
EJ – 39
Joe knew he was in trouble after starting off with 4s on the first three holes, and Joe T’s chipping was outstanding. Joe was going to have to "play better golf" if he wanted to keep his trophy.
Back Nine:
Dave – 27
Joe T – 31
Joe – 31
Jason – 35
Adam – 37
Dan – 38
Alex – 38
Dustin – 41
EJ – 41
The 18th Hole – Champion of the World
Round One
Group One:
Dustin – 4
Alex – 5
EJ – 7
Group Two:
Joe – 3
Joe T – 3
Jason – 3
Joe is on in one but he could not sink the 11-foot birdie putt
Group Three:
Adam – 4
Dan – 4
Dave – 4
A Few Good Men all head back to the 18th tee box to try again.
Round 2
Joe T hits the green in one, which leaves about a 5-foot putt for birdie. Joe is on the green, but up against the collar and the green is a mess from where he needs to start the putt. Jason goes long and right, somewhere near the trees and the road. Jason tells us to keep going, knowing his day is finished.
Joe hits his putt. It is a good strike, but it is just not straight enough, and he taps in for 3. Joe T has a chance at birdie, but the greens at Pine Knoll are not the greatest, and anything can happen… BUT NOT TODAY. Joe T drops the putt for birdie to claim the title Champion of the World.

Final Scores
Dave – 60 ***

Division Winners

After golf, we had a chance to gather around and tell stories of things, both good and bad, during this year’s journey through Pine Knoll. This year I brought the Champagne of Beer, ice cold Millers, that were going down way too smooth. I also bought White Claw for those with a slightly different taste.

Division Points to date:
Dude, Where’s my Par
Cody – 25
Dave – 25
Jake – 22
Bryan – 14
Dave has worked his way back to the top. Bryan continues to fall in the standings.
A Few Good Men
Joe T – 29
Joe – 23
Jason - 21
Rey – 19
What was the closest division in the league has now gotten some separation. Joe T now leads by 6 points, but it is still a close race for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
Team Mediocrity
Adam – 31
Dan – 23
Rock – 14
Juan – 11
Adam is the clear favorite to win this division, with Dan comfortably in the 2nd spot. Who knows what will happen for 3rd and 4th place? At this point, last place is probably just going to come down to who shows up the least.
Dumpster Fire
Dustin - 33
Alex – 25
EJ - 24
Dustin is also the clear favorite in his division, but Alex finally gets his first divisional win of the season. Alex also moves to 2nd place, dropping EJ to the 3rd spot.
There are just 4 more rounds of golf in our regular season, but 2 of them are Majors, which means anything can happen.
Next on the schedule is the Time Travelers, which will be played at Rolling Meadows in Ellington, CT on July 31st.
Respectfully,
Broken Joe
