Our 3rd Major was played at Tekoa Country Club in Westfield. BJG has never had an event there, so for many of us, this would be our first visit.
Jason, EJ, Alex, and Joe had played a practice round on Father’s Day, costing us $57.00. After we checked in, the gentleman behind the desk told us that he would only charge us $40.00 next Sunday since we had a large group. I think we will be going back to Tekoa next year.
Tekoa reminded me of Airway Golf Course and while it was about 400 yards longer, it did not feel long. The fairways could be challenging, but the greens were beautiful and fast. Just like Airway, if you made a mistake at Tekoa, you would pay for it.
We also found out quickly that it was mating season for the beetle population. At first, I thought they were bees but no, just millions of beetles getting busy with the task of reproduction. Maybe we should save Tekoa for later in the year.

Front Nine:
Cody – 43
Joe – 45
Bryan – 47
Joe T – 47
Jason – 48
Juan – 52
Rey – 53
Dustin – 55
Rock – 58
EJ – 65
Alex – 66
Adam – 67
Adam was at a wedding the night before so it might be a long day for him.
As a group, we averaged a score of 54. The 340-yard, par 4, first hole proved to be the hardest, playing 3.4 strokes over par. The easiest hole of the front was the 195-yard, par 3, 6th hole, where we were just over par.
And it was getting warmer as the day went on.
Back Nine
It is just HOT, HOT, HOT
Back Nine Scores:
Cody – 40
Rey – 42
Jason – 45
Joe T – 46
Bryan – 47
Juan – 49
Joe – 51
Rock – 53
Dustin – 57
EJ – 59
Alex – 66
Cody continues to lead the pack but since it is just him and Bryan competing, someone is going to get 6 points, and someone is getting 3 points. Dave and Jake will be taking a zero
Rey bounces back nicely, but it is his home course, and he did sleep in. Jason and Joe T play well on the back and three of “A Few Good Men” are in the top four. The heat must have gotten to Joe because he cannot keep up, and adds 6 strokes to his front nine score.
Adam makes a great comeback, shaving 20 strokes off his front 9 score, but Juan is right there with him. Rock also plays better on the back, knocking 5 strokes off his front nine score.
Dustin continues to play steady golf, and EJ dropped 6 strokes. Alex is still looking for his swing.
The 350 yard, par 4, 10th Hole was the hardest on the back nine, playing 3.4 strokes over par.
Believe it or not, we played both of the par 5s (11th & 16th holes) under par. As group, we shot a 50 on the back nine for a total score of 104.

We have a tie between Joe T and Juan. Time for a Putt Off.

After 6 rounds of putts, Joe T is finally declared the winner.

Division Standings:
Dude, Where’s My Par
1st Place: Cody – 25 Points
2nd Place: Jake – 22 Points
3rd Place: Dave – 19 Points
4th Place: Bryan – 14 Points
Cody takes first place from Jake, and the points are starting to spread apart. Bryan is going to need to play better golf if he hopes to stay in contention.
A Few Good Men
1st Place: Joe T – 22 Points
2nd Place: Joe – 20 Points
3rd Place: Jason – 19 Points
3rd Place: Rey – 19 Points
Joe T takes first place in this division. The points are close and the competition continues to be furious.
Team Mediocrity
1st Place: Adam – 26 Points
2nd Place: Dan – 20 Points
3rd Place: Rock – 14 Points
4th Place: Juan – 11 Points
Adam continues to lead this division. I did not think that Juan had any chance at making the playoffs, but at the end of the day, Juan is only 3 points from 3rd place and a shot at the wild card spot.
Dumpster Fire
1st Place: Dustin - 30 Points
2nd Place: EJ – 22 Points
3rd Place: Alex – 20 Points
Dustin is running away with this division, but since there are only 3 men standing, they will all make the playoffs. The question is will EJ or Alex win the wild card, and a chance to move on?
The winner of the longest drive is Cody. This is Cody’s 6th time winning the longest drive.
There was no winner for the closest to the pin so this will be worth twice as much at the Time Travelers Championship at Rolling Meadows.
Our next event is a Non – BJG event and it is as the Team Alternate Shot competition (old Chosen Four) and it will be played on July 10th at Veterans Golf Course. Please let Joe T know if you are playing in this event. Please, no children and no, you cannot bring your own partner.
I hope you all have a Happy and Safe Fourth of July.
Respectfully,
Broken Joe
