After the 2023 BJG Awards, pizza arrived, and we had a little lunch before we moved on to the 2024 BJG Winter Meeting.
The first thing we did was give out the 2023 Winter Classic Champion Shirt to EJ and the 2023 BLG Fed Up Cup Champion Shirt to Adam. For some reason we forget to take pictures.
Next, we welcomed the new members, Matt, Rob, JT, and Stephen. Joe V had to leave early, Adam 2 had to work, James was on vacation and Mike was sick. We said goodbye to Adam 1, Jason, Cody, and Cam. We now have 14 Golfers to start the 2024 BJG season.
Next week covered the 2024 BJG Fed Up Cup points based on 14 Golfers.
A regular round (The Woods Shootout, Time Travelers, The Quest for Valhalla, and the Chubby Classic) will have a total of 105 Points with 14 points going to 1st place and 1 point going to last place.
The Pretenders and Championship of the World will have a total of 210 Points with 28 points for 1st place and 2 points going to last place.
The first Major, The Misters, will have a total of 315 Points with 42 points going to 1st place and 3 points going to last place.
The second and third Major, The Fathers and Uncles Invitational and the American Freedom Open will have a total of 422 Points with 56 points going to 1st place and 4 points going to last place.
The final Major, The Broken Joe Golf Championship will have a total of 525 Points with 70 points going to first place and 5 points going to last place.
In case anyone misses an event, those points will be re-divided by the Golfers that played.
PLAYOFFS
The top four Golfers at the end of the regular season will get a bye and move to the 2nd round. The last two Golfer will be out and will move to the Legends of Tomorrow, Losers of Today. The middle 8 Golfers will be seeded with the winners moving on to the 2nd Round.
2nd Round will be the top four Golfers that had the bye and the winners of the 1st Round Wildcard matchups. The remaining 6 Golfers will compete in the Legend of Tomorrow and have a chance for the 9th Place Trophy.
The Final Round will be the top 3 Golfers from the 2nd Round and the winner of the Legends of Tomorrow.
Next, we quickly went through the schedule which is already posted on the website. AGAIN, please let me know if you cannot make an event so that we can make the correct number of tee times and plan for the cart assignments. I also reminded everyone that we play in all kinds of weather. We will play golf unless the golf course closes.
I also reminded everyone about the importance of READING THE BLOG. This is where you will find all of the information you will need to play golf.
I went quickly through the rules, which are also posted on the website. Please take the time to read them now and if you have any questions we can answer them during the Pan Am: Pro–Am.
I covered that you will only get 2 chances off the tee box, we don’t go backward and mark your balls. No one seemed to have any questions about our Local Rule E5, Alternative to Stroke and Distance: https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/rules-modernization/major-changes/golfs-new-rules-stroke-and-distance.html or concerning Penalty Areas: https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/topics/penalty-areas.html
We talked about Common Courtesies while on the golf course, such as music and talking while on the tee box or riding up to a tee box. The 3-minute search for a ball starts when you are actively looking for your ball and not when you get out of the cart and “Playing Ready Golf”. We also talked about being early and never being late, but we understand things happen so CALL me if you are running late.
We talked about not being Pros and understanding that bad things can happen on the golf course. You will have bad drives, mishits, 3 putts, and lost balls. It happens to all of us, that’s why it is called Broken Joe Golf. Please don’t lose your mind and rant/rave. It only makes the rest of the Golfers uncomfortable, and this issue will need to be addressed.
We talked about Handicaps. For the 6 old members, their handicaps have been established over the last few years. As for the new members, you have give us your handicap and that has become your initial BJG handicaps. Handicaps are also posted on the website.
Finally, we talk quickly about money. We took in $1,200 and we are budgeted to spend $1,997 to cover the cost of the 2024 BJG year. Please let me know If you want to look at the 2024 BJG budget. Alex and I are working on updating the budget after the cost of the 2023 Awards and 2024 Meeting.
Finally, we tried to talk about Longest Drive and Closet to the Pin. As we talked it seemed that people would rather have TWO Closets to the Pin competitions. Since this is separate from BJG, it will be an extra cost. We need to know who wants to play in this competition so we can figure out what it costs per Golfer and what the payouts are. Please text me and let me know if you want in.
Just 18 more days until the 2024 BJG Pan Am: Pro-Am.
Respectfully,
Broken Joe
