This is Rey’s second Major win in 2024, but this one would not be quite as easy as his first.
I heard from JT Saturday night. He said he was feeling better and, if there was an opening, he might want to play on Sunday. I told him we did have an opening and that he was more than welcome. Sunday morning, JT texted me, saying he would be playing.
It was a cool, cloudy day, and I think most of us expected rain—but not quite to the level we received. Some of us did not have the necessary gear to deal with the elements.
I cannot remember the last time we played at Rolling Meadows when the weather was nice. The only good news was that points would be at a premium with only 10 Golfers playing at this 2nd Major.
As you can imagine, the golf course was pretty deserted, and we were able to start just a little earlier. This is where I remind everyone to come early because you never know if we will begin earlier than scheduled.
Front Nine Scores
1st Place: Rey – 34 (45)
2nd Place: Matt – 36 (45)
2nd Place: Stephen – 36 (47)
4th Place: Joe T – 37 (49)
5th Place: Mike – 38 (43)
6th Place: Joe – 40 (52)
7th Place: James – 42 (49)
8th Place: Joe V – 44 (46)
9th Place: EJ – 50 (68)
Right around 9:30, the sky opened, and rain began falling. JT, walking the course, decided that the weather was too much for him, and he headed home. If you can brave the weather and finish the round, you'll earn more free points.
Mike had TWO birdies, while Rey and Joe T each had one. There were almost as many scores of 10 as there were birdies (3).
Given the weather and the course conditions, I was impressed with the scores, but the back nine would be much more challenging.
The easiest hole on the front nine was the Par 4, 6th hole, where we were just .8 strokes over Par. The hardest hole on the front nine was the Par 4, 2nd hole, where we were 2.1 strokes over Par. As a group, we shot a 39 (49).
Back Nine Scores:
1st Place: Mike – 38 (43)
2nd Place: Matt – 39 (48)
2nd Place: Joe T – 39 (52)
2nd Place: Stephen -39 (50)
5th Place: James – 40 (48)
6th Place: Rey – 41 (53)
7th Place: Joe V – 42 (44)
7th Place: EJ – 42 (60)
9th Place: Joe – 45 (58)
And the rain just continued to fall...
Mike was impressive, with no blow-up holes on the back. Matt was more impressive, given that he had played the whole day in the pouring rain in just a polo shirt and shorts.
Iron Mike, usually “down to business,” was pretty funny, giving Joe and EJ some “helpful” commentary on their golf game.
The rain finally stopped just a couple of holes from the end, but by then, most of us were soaked to the bone. I learned the hard way that my rain gear needs to be replaced. I think some Golfers realized they might need to pack more gear in their bag.
This time, the blow-up holes were just a couple of 9s and a single 10, but we also did not have any birdies.
The easiest hole on the back nine was the Par 4, 12th hole, where we were just .9 strokes over Par. The hardest hole on the back nine was the Par 3, 13th hole (CTTH), where we were 2.9 strokes over Par. As a group, we shot a 41 (51) with a total score of 80 (100).

Yes, we have another tie, this time a three-way tie. I let Matt, Rey, and Stephen know they need to get their putter for a Putt-Off, but they don’t seem that interested in going back outside.
After much discussion, it was decided that the bartender should write a number between 1 and 10 on a piece of paper. The closest to that number would be crowned the Champion. Rey, being the higher handicap, went first. Unfortunately for Matt and Stephen, Rey guessed the number immediately, and the drama was over as quickly as it had started.

Once again, we have someone new at the top of the leaderboard. With the win, Rey moves from 5th to 1st.
Matt remains at the 2nd spot, Joe T moves up one spot to 3rd, and Mike also makes a big move, going from 8th to 4th Place.
Joe and EJ each moved up one spot to 5th and 6th, respectively, while Rob fell from 1st to 7th place.
Adam falls from 3rd to 8th, Stephen moves up two spots to 9th place, and James remains 10th.
Dustin falls two spots to 11th, and Joe V moves up one spot to 12th.
JT falls one spot to 13th.
Joe and Matt make some money at the Closest to the Pin Competition. Joe V seemed really happy to be playing golf with us on Sunday, but when I went to give him his $20 for winning the Closet to the Pin at the Woods Shootout, he was gone.
EJ wanted me to tell you that I was able to skillfully and accurately use my five woods to land my golf ball within 9 feet of the pin for the closest to the hole on the front.
Next on the schedule is the Time Travelers, which will be played at Tekoa County Club on 6/23/24.
Take the week off, dry your gear, and I hope you all enjoy the Father's Day weekend.
Respectfully,
Broken Joe
