Rob's journey to victory was not an easy one. It took him four nail-biting trips on the 18th hole to claim the Championship of the World belt AND the Low Score trophy, a feat we wouldn’t have wanted any other way.

EJ and I arrive at the Pine Knoll gate at about 8:45, and to our surprise, the guy manning the course arrives early at 8:50.  Unfortunately, so far, it is just the two of us, but the rest of the crew starts rolling in shortly after.

Right about this time, JT realizes he isn’t playing today and forgot to call out.  We are missing three Golfers, and the extra points will be nice.

It is a beautiful day to play golf.  The nice thing about today is that we should be home early to enjoy the rest of the day.  I send Adam, Mike, and Rob off as Group One.  The first tee box is a mess, but the rest are better.  Next out are Joe T, Joe, and Matt.  The last group is EJ, Dustin, Rey, and Stephen.

EJ and Dustin are on the 1st Tee Box, waiting for Stephen....

ree

Stephen is our first “No-Call/No-Show.” Around 9:34,  Stephen finally rolls out of bed, figures it out, and texts us.

Front Nine:

 1st Place:  Adam - 30

2nd Place:  Mike – 31

3rd Place:  Joe - 32

3rd Place:  Rey - 32

3rd Place:  Rob – 32

6th Place – EJ – 39

7th Place:  Dustin – 40

8th Place:  Matt – 42

9th Place:  Joe T – 43

The front nine yardage was just 675 yards, with the only real trouble at the 3rd and 4th hole wood line.  With that in mind, you needed to get your low score early.

ree

Rey was the only golfer to score a birdie on the front.

The easiest hole was the 72-yard, 7th hole, which played at an average score of 3.7.

The hardest hole was the 80-yard, 3rd hole, which played at an average of 4.6.  Rob was the only Golfer to score a Par on the 3rd hole.

As a group, we shot a 9 Over 36 on the front and that was with two 9s and two 6s.

Back Nine

 1st Place:  Rey – 30

1st Place:  Rob – 30

3rd Place:  Mike – 31

4th Place:  Joe – 34

4th Place:  Matt – 34

6th Place:  Adam:  35

7th Place:  EJ – 36

8th Place:  Joe T – 38

9th Place:  Dustin – 43

The back nine is 200 yards longer, with five holes playing between 115 and 130 yards.

ree

The trouble on the back would be on the 15th hole, where a tree blocks your tee shot to the green; the 16th hole, with the wood line running down the right side; and the 17th hole, with the fence dividing the course from the driving range.

Joe, Matt, and Rey get themselves birdies on the back nine.

The easiest hole was the 130-yard, 13th hole, which scored at an average of 3.2.

The hardest hole was the 124-yard, 15th hole, which played at an average of 4.4.

As a group, we shot an 8 over 35 on the back, but at least we didn’t have any 9s on our scorecard. Our final score was 70 (+16).

Joe wins the Closest to the Pin on the 11th hole to win $20.

The 18th Hole:

Rob and EJ were the only two Golfers who could manage to play Par on the final hole, so the two of them went back and tried again.

ree

ROB defeated EJ to become the 2024 BJG Champion of the World.

Championship of the World Final Score:

1st Place:  Mike – 62

1st Place:  Rey – 62

1st Place:  Rob – 62

4th Place:  Adam – 65

5th Place:  Joe – 66

6th Place:  EJ – 75

7th Place:  Matt – 76

8th Place:  Joe T – 81

9th Place:  Dustin – 83

Yes, we have a three-way tie for first place, so I sent them back to the 18th hole to see if we could find a winner.

ree

Mike gets eliminated on the first playoff try. Rey and Rob get to go back down the hill and try again.

ree

Both Rey and Rob are just off the green on the right side of the pin.  Rob chips up and has a decent chance at Par.  Rey steps up to chip, and skulls it across the green.  It seems Rey was thinking more about baseball than golf.

ree

ROB takes the 1st Place trophy and the extra point. ROB is also the Champion of the World, which gives him another two extra points.

ree

Championship of the World Points:

1st Place:  Rob – 32 Points

2nd Place:  Mike – 25.5 Points

BJG Fed Up Cup Points

1st Place:  Rob – 91.5 Points

2nd Place:  Matt – 88.5 Points

3rd Place:  Adam – 87.5 Points

4th Place:  Joe T:  85.5 Points

 5th Place:  Rey – 85 Points

6th Place:  Joe – 72 Points

7th Place:  EJ – 69.5 Points

8th Place:  Mike – 64.5 Points

9th Place:  Dustin – 56 Points

10th Place:  James – 38 Points

11th Place:  Stephen – 35 Points

12th Place:  JT – 26 Points

13 Place – Joe V – 14 Points

With the win, Rob moves into First Place, with Matt falling to 2nd Place.

Adam remains in the 3rd spot, Joe T falls from 2nd to 4th, and Rey drops from 4th to 5th.

Joe and EJ remain in the 6th and 7th spots. Mike and Dustin flip their spots; Mike is now 8th, and Dustin is 9th.

James, Stephen, JT, and Joe V remain in the same spots: 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th.

After the round, we took a break and drank beer, water, and soda. We also snacked on chips. Usually, there isn't a soul in Pine Knoll's parking lot, but on this day, it was like Family Day with moms and dads and kids everywhere. I think some Moms were judging us for having a beer at 11:30 a.m.

Mike finally receives the proper Woods Shootout Trophy.

Anyway, this is no time to dwell on the victory or the agony of defeat because we are playing back-to-back Sundays.  Next Sunday, June 9th, 2024, we will play our Second Major, The Fathers and Uncles Invitational, at ROLLING MEADOWS COUNTRY CLUB in Ellington, CT.

I will see you on Sunday.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe

Commissioner
