Nine of us took advantage of the long 4th of July weekend and came out for some much needed (social distance) comradery and an opportunity to win the “Championship of the World” belt.
Juan and Nic told me that they were not going to play. Nic was playing Easy Mountain with his dad that morning. I would have thought that Nic would gladly have played a Par 3 course to get some of his confidence back but, Easy Mountain is just a little longer than Pine Knoll when playing from the whites.

I never did hear from Harry or Rey…

Jon did text me saying that I had once again forsaken him in the blog but when I asked if he was playing, it was a sad “NO”, so I don’t really know what he was complaining about...

Adam decided he was out the night before. Matt, who was originally playing, took the opportunity and followed Adam’s text to bail on us. I don’t know if Matt was already drinking, was planning on drinking, or just felt Agawam was too far away from East Longmeadow.

Bryan finally text me at 10:07 am on Sunday saying he wasn’t going to make it. Well duh, the tee time was at 10 am.

And we are off…

Front Nine scores:
Jake – 26
Joe – 29
Cody – 30
Rock – 33
Chris – 33
Dave – 33
Dan – 34
Steve – 34
Joe Willie – 39
Jake was hot on the front with three birdies and four pars to shoot one under par. Jake was probably looking for a little bit of payback after Cody took him out so easily in last year’s playoff. Initially, I think Cody was happy to keep the COTW trophies in the family.
Back Nine...

Back Nine scores:
Cody – 29
Rock – 33
Chris – 34
Jake – 36
Joe – 36
Dan – 37
Joe Willie – 38
Dave – 40
Steve - 42
Steve had a great shot onto the 12th hole, unfortunately, he was playing the 11th hole
Once again, Cody makes his comeback with seven pars and two bogeys. Jake and Joe fall off the pace and, Jake is left playing second fiddle to Cody again.

Final Score:
Cody – 59
Jake – 62
Joe – 65
Rock – 66
Chris – 67
Dan – 71
Dave – 73
Steve – 76
Joe Willie - 77
The 18th hole – The Championship of the World.
The great thing about the "Championship of the World" is that no matter how bad you played the first 17 holes, you have a chance at redemption, a chance to become a winner. On the other side of that feeling is when you hit your tee shot and know that your day is over. That was the feeling that 6 of us had almost immediately. But for three Golfers, Cody, Rock, and Chris, each had a chance to end it early with a birdie, but all of them had to settle for par.
Back to the tee box to try again, this time they all scored bogey.

Back to the tee box for the 3rd time.

Chris is long, Rock is right and, Cody hits the front of the green. Cody is looking good to repeat, but Rock sinks a 20-foot chip shot to put the pressure on his fellow competitors which they failed to answer.
Congratulations to Rock for winning the COTW and to Cody for having the lowest score. For the rest of us, there is always next year.
After the cheering and the crying were over, we all had a chance to reflect on the day with a nice cold beer, and in 2020, that beer could only be….

Reminder – The Chubby Classic is next Sunday, July 12th at Veterans Golf Course in Springfield. Look for the new blog to come out on Thursday.
Respectfully,
Brokem Joe
