The membership has spoken and they have made their voices clear…no Saturday golf.

Look, I understand. This league was built for every other Sunday because most of us have wives, children, and / or have jobs that include, working on Saturdays.

With half of the members working on a Saturday, it would not make sense to have our Majors on a Saturday.

The Saturday idea was probably my fault. I thought it would be a good idea as a way to increase our camaraderie. The truth is, that probably wasn’t going to work. We can barely get people to stay to have a beer after a round golf, let alone drive to someone’s house for a BBQ. Just think "Father Day Golf in NH". Plus, Matt was the only one to step up and volunteer his place for a BBQ.

Out of our 16 members, 9 wanted to stay with Sunday golf, 2 were happy to have the Majors on Saturday, 1 didn’t care one way or the other, and 4 didn’t even respond.

As I said, the members have spoken. Of course, this isn’t an official ruling, we will still need a formal vote either by text or at the Winter Meeting but, I think we can safely say we are good for Sundays.

And before I hear” split squads” again, the answer is NO. It did not work in 2017 and it's not going to work in 2021. The only way it might work is to have half the members play on Saturday and the half on Sunday, making two divisions within BJG. That would mean 8 golfers on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. Yea, that's what I need, 2 leagues.

Finally, with the Sunday issue resolved, it looks like we could have four new golfers, bringing our membership to 20 golfers (5 groups). Adam brought in Dustin as a new golfer, Rey has one, Juan has one and I have one. I think we should cap the membership at 20, at least for this year.

The draft schedule will be updated, the draft handicaps, draft rules, and the draft money are all posted. We are just waiting for the committees to get together and then we can have the Winter Meeting on Sunday, March 14th at Bryan's parents Lake House.

I will speak with each Committee Chair this week and review their progress. The Committees will send me their updated (draft) schedule, handicaps, rules and finances by Feb 28th. I will post that information on March 2nd so everyone has a chance to review the proposed changes and then discuss them at the Winter Meeting.

Believe it or not, we are getting closer to playing golf, instead of just talking about playing golf.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe

Commissioner
