After a long winter, BJG finally hits the golf course, but it wasn’t easy.

We were scheduled to play St Annes, but they screwed us. Then we were scheduled to play Chicopee, but they screwed us. Finally, Joe T was able to secure Rolling Meadows CC in CT.

We also played some musical chairs when it came to players. Because of the upcoming weather, Rey’s baseball game was moved from Saturday to Sunday. This meant that we were going from 17 golfers to 16 golfers (4 tee times instead of 5).

On Friday, after a hard day of physical therapy, Chris realized that he was not quite ready to come back to golf yet.

Dave’s wife had their baby on Thursday, but Dave was playing on Sunday. Can you tell that it is not his first child? Dave and Jon’s wife even congratulated BJG on the beginning of another golf season.

On Saturday, Rey told me that they were able to play the baseball game on Saturday and that he would finally make his debut at Rolling Meadows. Good thing I had 3 different rosters ready to go for Sunday.

Some people were a little concerned about the $55.00 price to play a round of golf at Rolling Meadows, but this is a very nice golf course and when the weather gets warmer it should be in great shape. I was more concerned about the 30-minute drive and the high gas prices. But if Rock could come from Palmer, I certainly should not be complaining.

It was good to see everyone show up early, and I was able to give Rey the second half of his Valhalla trophy. (It looks better in person)

Team Cody (Cody, Dan, Alex, and EJ) had the first tee time, and the weather was a little better than I thought it would be.

Team Dave (Dave, Joe, Adam, and Jon) were 2nd, Team Bryan (Bryan, Joe T, Juan, and Matty Ice were 3rd, and Team Jake (Jake, Rey, Rock, and Dustin) had the late tee time.

The group in front of Team Cody was SLOW so the day started with a “hurry up and wait” vibe.

The Front Nine:

Team Jake leads the pack with a front nine score of 34 (-2), Team Bryan shoots a 35 (-1), Team Cody shoots 36 (E) and Team Dave is on the outside looking in with a score of 37 (+1).

As a group, we had 8 birdies and 6 Bogeys. The par 4, 9th hole was the toughest on the front with our group scoring it with a 4.8 stroke average. The par 5, 1st hole was the easiest with an average score of 4.3.

The longest Drive Competition was on the 6th hole. Cody was the first golfer to make his mark at about 306 yards. Bryan had just pasted Cody’s mark but then Rey crashed his drive at about 326 yards. Dustin said they only had about 27 yards left to play after Rey hit that drive.

Of course, as with everything here at BJG, there would be some drama to deal with at the 19th hole.

The Back Nine:

It was almost like the tale of two cities. The weather on the front was pretty good which means the weather on the back was not good at all. It got COLD and WINDY. The only good news is that it didn’t rain but we were still miserable.

Team Cody wins the scoring on the back nine by shooting 38 (+2), Team Dave and Team Jake come in with a 39 (+3) and Team Bryan finishes the back with a score of 40 (+3).

EJ was lucky that it was a scramble.

On the back nine, we only had 2 birdies to go with our 8 Bogeys, and 2 Double Bogeys.

The par 5, 14th hole was the only hole where we shot under par with an average score of 4.5. Holes 12 and 15 were the hardest playing at full stoke extra on both holes.

The Closest to the Pin competition on the Par 3, 16th Hole saw Adam hit his ball within 18 feet of the pin.

Final Scores:

Team Jake – 73 (+1)

Team Cody – 74 (+2)

Team Bryan – 75 (+3)

Team Dave -76 (+4)

After the 40-minute “conversation” at the bar, Joe T awards Rey as the winner of the Longest Drive Competition. NOTE: The stake goes where the ball lands in the fairway.

Once again, Congratulations to Team Jake for the win and to Adam & Rey for winning a couple of dollars.

Next on the schedule is the Pretenders which will be played at Agawam Golf Course on April 24th. This will be the first time that the divisions will go head to head.

Points will be at a premium with first place receiving 5 points while the rest of us will be fighting for 3, 2, 1, and .5 points within our divisions.

Happy Easter !!!

Respectfully,
