The 2020 BJG Rider Cup

Two years ago, Adam, Rock and Bryan won the first BJG Rider Cup.

With Jon and Matt finishing the 2020 BJG season with the two lowest point totals, they are the Captains for this year’s Rider Cup. This year’s Rider Cup will be played on Oct 4th, 2020, at Veterans Golf Course.

Jon’s final points were a whopping 45, and Matt had an even more impressive total of 33.5. That’s an average of 6.42 points per week for Jon and 4.79 points per week for Matt. In comparison, Joe Willie’s total points were 219, with an average of 31.29 per week.

Oh well, someone has to be last.

I met with the Team Captains at 8 am on Saturday, Sept 5th, at Matt’s place in Agawam.

Jon won the coin toss and had the first pick. With the first pick, Jon takes Cody.

Matt had the next two picks, and he takes Dave and Harry.

Jon’s 2nd pick (4th pick overall) is Jake.

Matt’s 3rd pick (5th pick overall) is Joe.

Jon’s 3rd pick (6th pick overall) is Chris.

Matt’s 4th pick (7th pick overall) is Bryan.

Jon’s 4th pick (8th pick overall) is Rock.

Matt’s 5th pick (9th pick overall) is Rey.

Jon’s 5th pick (10th pick overall) is Steve.

Matt’s 6th pick (11th pick overall) is Adam.

Jon’s 6th pick (12th pick overall) is Dan.

Matt’s 7th and final pick (13th pick overall) is Juan.

Jon’s 7th and final pick (14th pick overall) is Nic.

Since Jon had first pick, Matt gets to pick the golf course. Matt goes with Veterans Golf Course.

Jon’s team will wear black or dark shirts, and Matt’s team will be wearing white or light color shirts.

The format will be a Four (three) Man Scramble. Each team will have 2 groups, and the lowest combined score from each Team will be declared the Victor.

Rules:

1. Putter length for the hole outs will remain in effect.

2. All shots will be played under the same conditions – from the fairway, rough, or the sand.

3. All shots will be within one club-length of the chosen ball.

4. A player that drops out of a group means that the group will have to play 3. In the event two or more players drop from a team, the Captain can re-organize his groupings.

5. In the event of a tie, the two Captains will have a putt off under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner (Chris).

6. The Losing Team will buy the winning team a beer at the end of the competition.

Breaking News – Just seven hours after the Rider Cup Captains choose their teams, Cody drops out leaving, “Team Jon” in some serious trouble and will now need to really manage his groups if he has any hope of winning.

I knew we would have someone drop out of the Rider Cup, but I don’t think anyone expected it to happen so fast or it to be the number one overall pick.

In the interest of competition, Matt trades Harry for Nic. After Harry just won the Fed Up Cup, Matt may have made a poor decision…
