While we wait for the "official" blog to crown the 2021 BJG FedUp Cup Champion, I thought I would get the President's Cup information out as early as possible.

The President’s Cup is a series of golf matches between two teams. The Team Captains are the top two players from the regular season.

The BJG President's Cup is played on odd number years (2019, 2021, 2023).

BJG also has the Rider Cup, which is played on even number years (2018, 2020, 2022) except the Team Captains are the two last-place players from the regular season.

Rules:

  1. All BJG rules and handicaps are in effect

  2. Each "Match" is worth one point.

  3. If a member of a team does not play, then their match is forfeited, and the other team receives the point.

  4. If at the end of the day there is a tie, the Captains will choose their “Putting Champion” for a putt off which will be overseen by the Captains.

This year’s team captains are Big Pappa Cody and Broken Joe. These two Golfers finished 1st and 2nd at the end of the BJG regular season. Their big accomplishments of 2021 came while playing at Pine Knoll.

Like the Fed Up Cup, we will be missing some Golfers for the President’s Cup. Out are: Chris, Harry, Jake, Matt T, Rock and Tim. Bryan said “should be” available but I can’t take that chance and move Bryan to a double secret alternate spot. I never did hear back from Nic.

On September 10th the two Captains chose their Teams. After a flip of the coin, Cody has the first pick.

“With the FIRST pick of the 2021 BJG President’s Cup, Team Cody chooses DAVE”. While Dave is thought to be the best pound per pound Golfer in this draft, he did play well through the regular season and had a really shot to be the Race to Big Y Champion (again). Dave did not play great during the first round of the Playoffs. However, Dave did get a second chance to get into the 2nd round of the playoff and is now in the Finals.

Joe now picks two Golfers.

“With the SECOND and THIRD picks of the 2021 BJG President’s Cup, Team Joe chooses REY and JOE T”. Rey is coming off back to back rounds of shooting 89 but his new handicap could be a problem. Either way, Rey is a bigger hitter for Team Joe. Joe T shot a 93 during first round of the Playoffs, grinded it out during the 2nd round and is now playing in Finals. The hope is that Joe T is going to continue to finish the year strong for Team Joe.

“With the FOURTH pick of the 2021 BJG President’s Cup, Team Cody chooses JUAN”. Juan hasn’t had a great year and only made the Playoffs because Chris dropped out. I n Juan’s defense, his wife did just have a baby. The other concern is that Juan, as of this writing (9/11/21), has not played a lot of BJG golf since the end of the regular season. That is a long lay off and the President’s Cup isn’t played until Oct 17th. Juan is an excellent team mate and he has the potential to put together a decent round of golf. (Juan did play at Southampton, so there is that).

“With the FIFTH pick of the 2021 BJG President’s Cup, Team Joe chooses ADAM”. Adam finished near the top of the leaderboard at the end of the regular season and potentially had a real shot to win the Race to Big Y (Dubai) if it hadn’t been for Hurricane Ida. Plus, Adam fight hard to make it to the 2nd round of the Playoffs by defeating Dave in the Putt Off. Adam also won his first trophy at the second round.of the Playoffs/ Team Joe will need “Steady Eddie” to help them win the President’s Cup.

With the SIXTH pick of the 2021 BJG President’s Cup, Team Cody chooses MATTY ICE”. Matty Ice has had a pretty good year winning two trophies, but he hasn’t been himself since his handicap was adjusted. Matty Ice has a good attitude, and he knows what he needs to do to get back to top of his game.

ree

“With the SEVENTH pick of the 2021 BJG President’s Cup, Team Joe chooses EJ”. EJ has clearly shown the world that he has what it takes to compete in his first year ever playing golf. He has practiced and brought in the right tools to be a true competitor. With that said, we will see his true character after watching his handicap go from -29 to -18. EJ has recently found a BIG SLICE in his game. Hopefully he will have that worked out before we play next.

ree

“With the EIGHT pick of the 2021 BJG President’s Cup, Team Cody chooses DAN”. Dan has not had a great year but when the opportunity to play in the first round of the Playoffs presented itself, Dan jumped on it and then moved forward into the 2nd round. You got to give him credit for his spirit of competition.

ree

“With the NINETH pick of the 2021 BJG President’s Cup, Team Joe chooses DUSTIN”. Dustin wasn’t given a true handicap for his first year at BJG but Dustin never complained. He went out there week after week and grinded it out and that is exactly what you are looking for in a team mate and in a team competition.

ree

“With the LAST pick of the 2021 BJG President’s Cup, Team Cody chooses JON”. Jon, like Matty Ice, had a good year by also winning a couple of trophies. But I think Jon, got tired near the end, being happy and content with where he ended up in 2021. We know Jon has the talent, but does he have the heart?
