The "Fathers and Uncles Invitational" used to be played on Father’s Day, but it did not work very well for married fathers.

Father’s Day, like Mother’s Day, is now an off week.

Past Champions are:

Dave – 2015

Leon – 2016

Bryan – 2017

Joe – 2018

Dave – 2019 (NH)

Cody – 2020

Matty Ice – 2021

Joe T – 2022

This year, the "Fathers and Uncles Invitational" will be held at Wintonbury Hill Golf Course at 206 Terry Plains Rd, Bloomfield, CT 06002.

Wintonbury Hills is a new course on the BJG schedule, and it was chosen by the members. I fully expect to see red/yellow lines and red/yellow stakes to indicate water/penalty areas.

“Wintonbury Hills Golf Course in Bloomfield, CT is a beautifully conditioned course in a peaceful and relaxing setting. The golf course represents Peter Dye’s first championship design in New England. The 5,778-yard (White), par 70 layout had a combination of open links–style and traditional tree-lined holes to provide golfers a challenging and enjoyable round of golf. With generous rolling fairways to help navigate the 125 bunkers framing the golf course and breathtaking views of the Tunxia Reservoir, Wintonbury Hills is on everyone’s “must-play” list. The golf course was named CT’s “Best New Course” by Golf Weekly Magazine in 2005.

One of the featured holes on the course arrives at the 14th Hole, 455 yards, par 4, which plays along the town’s water retention reservoir.”

There are a total of 180 Points up for grabs. 36 Points for First Place and just 4 Points for 9th Place.

Since this is a Major, Groups are set by the Leaderboard.

Unfortunately, Joe T had a family issue, and will not be able to defend his Title.

Group One - 10:00

Cart 1: Cody (10) & EJ (36)

Cart 2: Adam (31) & Dustin (36)

Group Two - 10:10

Cart 3: Jason (19) & Alex (36)

Cart 4: Cam (14) & Joe (23)

As it turns out, there are no Green/White Tee Boxes, they are Green OR White tee boxes, meaning that we would be bouncing between these two colors. Also, while there are only 258 yards of distance between Green/White Tee Boxes and the White Tee Boxes, 55% (143 yards) of that yardage is added to the Par 3s.

After a lot more discussions, we have decided that Par 3s will be played from the White Tee Boxes, and Par 4s and Par 5s will be played from the Green Tee Boxes.

There is also some type of vegetation in front of a couple of the tee boxes where someone could put two tee shots into this area. For that reason, drop zones will be established on the other side of these areas. Cody will text us each time he creates a drop zone.

Yardage Information

• All distances are measured in yards to the center of the green. • Colored fairway discs represent the following yardages: Red = 100, White = 150, Blue = 200 & Black = 250.

General Rules

• USGA Rules Govern All Play except where modified by Local Rules (That means BJG Rules)

• Please replace divots, rake bunkers and repair ball marks on the greens.

• White stakes and lines indicate out-of-bounds (But we don't really play out of bounds)

• Red stakes and lines indicate lateral hazards.

• Yellow stakes and lines indicate water hazards.

(If you do not see the ball go into the water, it is a Lost Ball and the drop is from where the ball first crossed the penalty area, not where it landed)

Golf carts shall not be used without proper registration in the pro shop.

• Each operator of a golf cart must have a valid driver’s license.

• Obey ALL directional signs on the course.

• Always use cart paths near tees and greens and we are cart path only on ALL par 3 holes. (These golf carts have GPS, which means they can give you yardage, but that means that the GPS also controls where the golf cart can and cannot go).

Etiquette Pete Dye & Tim Liddy - Design

• Your round shall not exceed 4 hours, play ready golf if necessary to keep pace.

• All players are requested to keep up with the group in front.

• Upon completing a hole, leave the green promptly and proceed to the next hole. Write down the scores of the completed hole when you reach the next tee.

• The ranger staff has full authority on the course to maintain rules and speed of play for everyone’s enjoyment.

The first Closet to the Pin will be on the 3rd Hole, 125 Yard, Par 3, and on the back, it will be on the 12th hole, 148 Yard, Par 3.

Don't forget we are playing back-to-back Sundays with the Championship of the World being played on June 11th at Pine Knoll in East Longmeadow.

This is a new golf course for BJG as requested by the membership. Let’s have a great time and enjoy all of this new golf course’s challenges. Let us also be respectful of this new course, its golfers, and its staff.

I will see you all on Sunday.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe

Commissioner
