The American Freedom Open

The 'American Freedom Open is our third Major. This is not just a tournament but a celebration of our nation's independence. It's a patriotic event, played near our Nation's Independence Day, that holds a special place in our hearts.

This Major is always played at Veterans Golf Course in honor of the men and women who have served and continue to serve our great Country… except this year..... Veterans is having an event that day.

The only other option is Westover Golf Course. I actually went there two weeks before our scheduled event because Westover never answers its phone when we call. When I arrived, the gentleman told me there was nothing he could do for me; the computer would only let him schedule tee times seven days in advance.

Yes, I know I am taking a big chance by waiting seven days to get a tee time at a place we never play, but I’ll try it for the sake of our members.

I drive back there on Sunday, a week before we are scheduled to play. I am there at 7:00 a.m., and the new guy behind the desk tells me the best he can do is 10:40.

Of course, I am not happy and trying to figure out how they scheduled all those tee times before 10:40.  Hell, their website says they don’t even open until 7:30 a.m.

I drove to Franconia as my 3rd option, but they don’t have anything until 9:40.  Hell, I may as well stay with Westover….

I figured we still had Edgewood and Tekoa as courses on the schedule that we hadn't played yet, so I called Edgewood. He gives me three tee times, with the first one starting at 8:16 a.m. Edgewood Golf Course it is!!!

Edgewood Golf Course is at 161 Sheep Pasture Road, Southwick, MA.

This Major is worth 364 Points, 54 for First Place and just 4 for Last Place.

Joe T and Matt will not be joining us for this Major.  That means there WILL be a change at the top of the Leaderboard and more Free Points.

Rey is quietly working on a 2024 BJG Grand Slam. He has already won the first two Majors, The Misters and the Fathers & Uncles Invitational, and now he is looking for his third.

 As for all Majors, groups are set by the Leaderboard.

The Golf Course should have Drop Zones at the 11th and 14th holes. If there is a change, I will text the group.

The first Closest to the Pin is on the Par 3, 8th Hole (167 yards), and the second Closest to the Pin will be on the Par 3, 13th Hole (149 yards).

Everyone wearing Red, White, & Blue, OR Stars & Stripes during this event will earn One Camaraderie Point.

Weather Forecast: Sunday will have a low of 68 and a high of 90, with mostly sunny skies. There is a 12% chance of rain, and the humidity will be 56%. The wind will be WSW at 9 MPH.

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday and the two weeks off, but now it is time to get back to playing golf. After this event, there will only be three more events in the regular season.
