The Woods Shootout did not start out the way I thought it would, but at the end of the day, it was, for the most part, a good day.

Dustin had already let me know, multiple times, that he would not be playing at the Woods Shootout because of a work golf tournament. I know Alex and EJ were happy to hear that.

On Wednesday, June 8th, Rock texted me saying that an hour and 10 minutes to Airway may be too far for him to drive on Sunday.

The truth is that I thought West Suffield was closer to Enfield, but I was wrong, my bad.

Then on June 10th, Juan texts me to say that he is sick and cannot attend The Woods Shootout. We, at BJG, hope that Juan and his family are feeling better.

Finally, Jon texted me and said that he would not make the Woods Shootout due to some family events.

In fact, Jon will need to take a leave of absence from BJG for the rest of the BJG season, but he is planning to be back in 2023.

I didn’t think the ride was that far or that bad. In fact, I was surprised that I got there that fast. I almost miss the turn because the driveway is tiny.

Other golfers had problems with their GPS, but they all managed to arrive on time.

After confirming that Rock was out, that left 12 golfers, and it was time to move some people around, and cancel a tee time.

We did have 4 golfers wear Tiger’s signature red and black.

The golf course looked like it was in good shape, and the staff was helpful and friendly. The fairways were not the greatest, but the greens were firm and fast. The course is a little quirky, kind of like a grown-up version of Kingston Golf Course in NH.

The Airway golf course is only 5,528 yards long from the white tee boxes, and for the most part, it is wide open. The 3rd hole was a dogleg right but the funny part was that the first part of the dogleg was only about 150 yards out. Yes, this course was kind of easy, right up until you made a mistake, and then you paid the price with a very high number. That number was anywhere between an 8 and 12.

Front Nine:

Cody – 41

Jake – 42

Joe T – 43

Dave – 46

Joe – 46

Rey – 46

Jason – 47

Dan – 50

EJ – 51

Bryan – 54

Adam – 54

Alex – 64

The ninth hole played the easiest, and as a group, we almost made par (4.4) on the 272-yard par 4.

The long, narrow 487 yard, Par 5 played the hardest on the front. As a group, it played almost 2.5 strokes over par.

As a group, we shot a 49, 13 over par.

The Back Nine:

Joe – 43

Bryan – 44

Cody – 46

Joe T – 48

Rey – 48

Jason – 48

Jake – 49

Adam – 50

Dan – 52

EJ – 61

Alex - 61

The Par 5, 11th hole played the easiest on the back, where again, we almost made par (5.6 strokes). The 17th hole, 387 yard, Dogleg Par 4 played the hardest, where we shot a whopping 3.5 strokes over par.

As a group, we shot a 50 on the back, 15 strokes over par.

For some of us, the back was easier, and for others, it was harder. Almost everyone had at least one blow-up hole with at least an 8 ,but there was a lot of 9s, 10s, and 12s.

The exceptions were Jake and Rey. Rey did not have a “blow-up” hole, but he also could not take advantage of this layout, scoring 6s and 7s. Jake had success on the front but could not find that same magic on the back nine.

Final Scores:

Joe – 89

Joe T – 91

Jake – 91

Dave – 92

Rey – 94

Cody – 96 (87 + 9)

Jason – 97 (94 + 3)

Bryan – 98

Dan – 100 (102 – 2)

Alex – 125

2nd Place: EJ – 19 Points

3rd Place: Alex – 18 Points

After much thought, I have decided to leave Dumpster Fire with just 3 golfers rather than trying to create new divisions with 15 golfers.

I feel like the first 2 groups are REALLY competitive.

Juan is way behind in his group, but if he wins a couple of Majors, it could turn things around. Right now, Dan & Rock will be fighting it out in the Playoffs.

While Dustin is still out in front, EJ and Alex need to find a way to “play better golf” if they want to be the division champion. Otherwise, it will just play out in the Wild Card round.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend off and has a happy Father’s Day.

Next on the schedule is our 2nd Major, The Fathers and Uncles (FU) Invitational on June 26th, 2022 at Tekoa Country Club in Westfield. It looks like Rey can finally sleep in.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe
