Rules Update:

Mark your balls:

ree

Mark your balls with your initials on both (opposite) sides of your golf balls. You should have three golf balls in your pocket, each one is marked with a 1, 2, or 3. The 1 ball is the ball you use off the tee box and is your ball in play until you lose ball 1, then ball 2 will be in play until:

  1. You find ball 1, then 1 ball is to be played.

  2. You lose ball 2 or you finish the hole. Once you finish the hole, you will start the next hole off the tee box with a new 1 ball. Ball 2 and 3 will be in your pocket.

  3. If you lose ball 2, you will play ball 3 until you either find ball 2 or finish the hole, and then you will start the next hole off the tee box with a new 1 ball. Ball 2 and 3 will be in your pocket.

With the clarification of this rule, we will always know what ball is in play or what ball you are looking for. For those of you who "forget" to do this before Sunday, Dave will have a maker to help you.

Line or Stakes: I think some of us (me) were caught off guard by the red line on the 2nd hole at Ledges. I doubt we will see the level of "marks" that we saw at Ledges but...

Red line or stakes: The Red Line or Stakes means “Penalty Area”. The “Penalty Area” is treated just like water even if there is no water inside the red line or stakes. This means that if your ball is inside the red line or stakes you can play it as it lays or move it 2 club lengths for a ONE STROKE penalty. If you lose a ball inside the red line or stakes you can drop a new ball (#2) two club-lengths from the red line or stakes for a ONE STROKE Penalty. When you see a red line or stakes think and play it as if it is water.

White line or stakes: The White line or stakes means “Out of Bounds”. If your ball is inside the white line or stakes you can play it as it lays or move it 2 club lengths for a ONE STROKE penalty. If you lose a ball inside the white line or stakes you will drop a new ball (#2) two club-lengths onto the fairway for a TWO STROKE Penalty.

Lost Ball: There are different degrees of “lost ball”. Sometimes a lost ball is just off the fairway or just inside a tree line, other times the lost ball may be deep into the woods.

The player that hit the ball will determine if he wants to search for a lost ball or decide to drop a new ball (#2) two club-lengths onto the fairway for 2 stroke penalty. There is no rule that REQUIRES a player to search for his lost ball for 3 minutes. In fact, why would you search for a lost ball that is deep in the woods? What are you going to do if you find it? Move it 2 club-lengths deep in the woods? Personally, I do a drive-by in case the Golf Gods have decided that my wayward ball should hit a tee and land near the treeline but more likely than not, the ball is gone and I move directly to the fairway for my 2 stroke penalty. I chose not to waste my time looking for a ball I cannot find or I cannot hit.

If there is a question, issue, or problem during the game, write the question down and address it BEFORE I finish tallying the final scores. Please bring the issue up to Dave and the Rules Committee as soon as possible. Dave and I will discuss it, make the ruling, and adjust any scores if necessary before awarding the trophy. Once the trophy is awarded it is too late to bring up your question, problem, or issue.

Groupings Update: Matt T is out, he has a fishing tournament. Harry is spending his last Sunday at home with his family before he spends the next 25 weeks in New Braintree and Juan is spending some quality time with the newest member of his family. Since each of these golfers is in a different group, no changes are needed.

The 8th hole at Agawam on the far left side of the green has been dug up. As of Friday, Agawam did not think that it should be "ground under repair" but I am hoping they changed their minds for the weekend.

I have decided to keep the 7th hole as the "longest drive" hole. One, it has always been the "longest drive" hole at Agawam and because the hole is downhill, it gives most of our golfers the greatest chance to win.

The Woods Shootout is worth a total of 210 points, 20 Points for first place, and 1 point for last place.

Weather: We’ll have a windy mix of sun & clouds on Sunday and high temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s. . Be ready for scattered showers and thunderstorms after 3 pm on Sunday. A couple of these storms could be strong.

Good luck.

Respectfully,

Broken Joe
