The Winter Classic Championship is our oldest event (2012), and for those that have not won it, our most prestigious.
Our past Champions are:
2012 – Dave
2013 – Dave (Actually Dave won with an 8 handicap)
2014 – Joe (Dave did not play due to injury)
2015 – Matt (Chris and Matt tied and had to play a week later. Matt had a 42 handicap)
2016 – Dan (Dan and Leon tie and had to play 3 playoff holes)
2017 – Rock (All of 2017 has an asterisk)
2018 – Joe
2019 – Rey
2020 - ?????
In the year of the pandemic, we have 12 out of 17 golfers competing for the Winter Classic Championship. Twelve golfers is impressive because we usually only average seven golfers .
I was surprised that Chris, the Deputy Commissioner, was not playing this year. I think this will be the first time that he has missed the Classic, but hunting season is here, and Chris isn’t the golfer he once was.
Matt, Nic, and Harry are also not playing the last match of the year. I never did hear from Bryan, I guess he has started his winter hibernation already.
With Harry not playing, Juan has a chance to get back into the conversation for the "2020 BJG Rookie of the Year" if he can pull off the win.
So that leaves us, the competitors that are ready to take on the challenge of the Winter Classic Championship this Sunday, October 18th, 2020, at St Annes Golf Course.
The great thing about St Annes is that I was able to get tee times two weeks early and that means earlier tee times.
Right now, the forecast is COLD. Saturday night’s low is 37 and Sunday’s high is 60. This is one of those Sundays were you wished we had a late tee time. Hey, it wouldn’t be the Winter Classic if it was warm.
Because Rey is the 2019 Winter Classic Champion, he will lead us in this final round. For the rest of us, it was the luck of the draw as to what group you were playing in. This random drawing would have made Nic proud...if he were playing.

Groups and Tee Times:
Group One – 9:07
Cart One: Rey & Joe
Cart Two: Jon & Jake
Group Two – 9:14
Cart Three: Adam & Juan
Cart Four: Rock & Dave
Group Three – 9:21
Cart Five: Steve and Cody
Cart Six: Joe Willie & Dan
That is if everyone on this list shows up. Bring your cold-weather gear, you're probably going to need it.
Don't forget that we will be handing out the 1st Place Medals to the victors (Team Matty Ice) of the 2020 BJG Rider Cup at 8:50.
Good luck, and enjoy our last event of 2020.
Respectfully,
Broken Joe
Commissioner
