Victory or Valhalla - Match Play 2026
This is the second year in a row that BJG has attempted Match Play. The challenge is always the same — having an even number of golfers, and hoping everyone actually shows up. Currently, Dustin (vacation), JT (injury), and James (work) are all out, which leaves us with 12 golfers. I wanted to play at Wyckoff Country Club — they've been putting a lot of money into making it a great course — but a late tee time forced Joe T to look elsewhere. We'll be playing at Edgewood Golf C

What I Learned from the Clash of Colors
One of the things I enjoy most about running Broken Joe Golf is experimenting with new ideas. Some become traditions. Others simply teach us something that makes the league better. The Clash of Colors was one of those experiments. For the first time, tee boxes were assigned using a combination of Driving Distance, Handicap Index, and Average Score. The original idea came from the USGA's Tee It Forward recommendations, but I also wanted to account for each golfer's overall pla

Magic Mike Finally Breaks Through at the Clash of COLORS
After nearly two years with Broken Joe Golf, Magic Mike finally captured the victory he has been chasing. The scary part? He didn't just win. He dominated. Playing from the Blue Tees at Westover Golf Club, Magic Mike fired an incredible net 59 (77 gross), finishing seven strokes clear of the field and recording the lowest score of the 2026 BJG season. It was one of the most impressive performances we've seen in league history. Westover Golf Club was in outstanding condi

The Clash of COLORS
This event was supposed to be the Chubby Classic, but I decided to try something a little different, something that I have been thinking about for a while. I call it The Clash of COLORS. I should also tell you that originally, this blog was a lot longer... The USGA and PGA promote a concept called "Tee It Forward," which encourages golfers to play from the tee that best fits their game. The idea isn't to make golf easier — it's to create fairer competition. Honestly, I don't

James WINS the American Freedom Open - AGAIN
Jame cemented his legacy in BJG history by winning back-to-back American Freedom Open We were already missing Rob, JT, and Joe V for this third Major, so points were going to be big. Next, Joe A called out because he extended his vacation in Maine. I would too if I were in Maine. Dustin had texted me earlier in the week, saying he hurt his back and didn’t know if he could play on Sunday. A text on Sunday, just before 8 am, confirmed that he would be out. That means

The American Freedom Open (2026)
The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, when thirteen determined colonies boldly declared their freedom from British rule. That courageous act marked the birth of the United States of America—a nation founded on the enduring principles of liberty, equality, and self-governance. This year, as America celebrates its 250th Anniversary, we honor not only the vision of our Founding Fathers bu

Stephen Wins The 2026 Time Travelers
Congratulations to Stephen for his SECOND win of the 2026 BJG season !!! Joe T injured his finger on Thursday, and the injury was serious enough to sideline him on Sunday. We now have 12 golfers and just 3 tee times. The course looks to be in great shape, and it is a nice morning, but it will get hot as the day goes on. And off we go… Front Nine: 1st Place: Stephen – 35 (45) 2nd Place: Matt – 36 (47) 2nd Place: Joe A – 36 (43) 4th Place: Adam – 37 (41) 4th Place

The Time Travelers (2026)
The Travelers Championship is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour in Cromwell, CT, a suburb of Hartford. The tournament has been held at TPC River Highlands since 1984 and is managed by the Greater Hartford Community Foundation. In 2018, the Travelers Championship earned the Players' Choice Award for the second consecutive year. This award is voted on by PGA Tour members for its services, hospitality, attendance, and course quality. More importantly, this is

BREAKING NEWS
We were supposed to play at Wykoff Country Club for the Chubby Classic on June 28th, 2026, but they have a tournament. Next, Joe T called Edgewood, Chicopee, Cedar Knob (Late Tee Time), and Southampton, but again they are having tournaments. Joe T reminded me that next week is the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, CT, so we should play in CT. I don’t know how I missed that on the Broken Joe Golf schedule, but I am now correcting that. In honor of the Travelers Champi

Results from the Drive, Chip & Putt AND the Championship of the WORLD
I knew the week leading up to the Drive, Chip & Putt Competition and the Championship of the World would be hectic because of the multiple events, and it was the first time trying to do something like this. On Friday, I got a text from Joe A saying he would not be able to attend this event because he had to attend a funeral. Next, I heard from Iron Mike; he too could not make this event because he has some issues he needs to deal with in Pittsfield. Joe A, we are sorry

Drive, Chip & Putt / Championship of the WORLD
The Championship of the World was started as a mid-season break from the stress of serious competition. It was a chance for us to play a quick Executive Course and share some camaraderie. Over the last couple of years, I have been asked to “add” to the COTW. Since Pine Knoll is already at Fenway Golf, this was an easy lift. I give to you, the BJG, “Drive, Chip and Putt Competition. Fenway Golf opens at 9 a.m. To give me time to set up, we will start at 9:15. Fenway

Housekeeping
Interesting Fact: I have not done a Housekeeping post since 2018. With six rounds complete and six rounds remaining in the 2026 BJG regular season, this seems like a good time to address a few league matters and review some rules that continue to create some confusion. League Treasurer Position Available First, Alex has decided to step away from league play. His schedule has simply become too demanding to continue with the rigors of BJG competition. Alex has graciously a

Adam WINS The Tin Cup Championship
Adam got his first BJG win in 2024 at The Pretenders. Next, Adam became the 2025 BJG Champion of the World. Adam can now claim a BJG Major win in 2026, and not at a moment too soon, as he was sitting at the 13th spot. The day started as some BJG golf days start… with someone bailing at the last minute. This one was a little odd because the message came as a group text from Stephen at 3:40 AM. Stephen says his back hurts and wishes us the best of luck. Fortunately for

The 2026 Tin Cup Championship
In 2015, Broken Joe Golf added the Fathers and Uncles Invitational as our 2nd Major Championship. The problem was that our 3rd Major Championship, the American Freedom Open, left us with only one event between the two Majors. In 2025, I decided to try to space the Majors out evenly. I always knew I was keeping The Misters, The American Freedom Open, and The BJG Championship, which meant that the Fathers and Uncles would have to change. Past Champions of the Fathers & Unc

Stephen WINS The Pretenders
After more than two years with BJG — and after winning the 2025 BJG Journey Award — Stephen has finally captured his first trophy. Stephen officially proved he is no Pretender. But before we celebrate that, we need to talk about the absolute cluster that was Gillette Ridge. The day started with me driving to the course when, at 6:00 AM, I got a text from Alex saying he couldn’t play. With Dustin already out, we were suddenly down to 14 golfers. Then, at 6:32 AM, Joe V tex

The Pretenders Championship (2026)
On May 17th, 2025, we will play our version of “The Players Championship,” which we call The PRETENDERS Championship. The Pretenders Championship will be held at Gillette Ridge Golf Course, 1360 Hall Blvd, Bloomfield, CT 06002. I chose Gillette Ridge because everyone enjoyed the course and wanted a second chance. Green fee with a cart is $85.00. They don’t make it easy to see their public rates. Past Pretenders Champions are: 2017 - Jake 2018 - Chris 2019 - Bryan 2020

EJ WINS THE 2026 SHOOTOUT
We arrive at Agawam, and the course looks good. Unfortunately for us, it's another terrible day of weather, and it's May!!! It is a WINDY day, which makes it COLD. Even Matt wears pants. Dustin still comes to play in shorts, but they are black shorts. We have a slight delay due to a course issue, but we hope that gives us time to see the sun. Front Nine: 1st Place: EJ – 34 (48) 2nd Place: Matt – 37 (46) 2nd Place: Rey – 37 (46) 4th Place: Joe V – 39 (43) 4th Place

MY VIEW...
THE GOLD TEES On Monday, I finally got the callback about my request to join a weekday Senior Golf League. They didn’t have much information for me—just that my tee time was “8:32–8:40.” I had no idea what that meant, but who was to question a league that had been around for about 30 years. As you know, I’m usually at the golf course early. I left the house at 7:15, planning to arrive by 7:45. Of course, construction on Sumner Ave and Route 57 had other ideas and slowed

The Woods Shootout (2026)
Back in 2022, as the final day of the AT&T, Bryon Nelson Championship was being played, I thought that BJG should name one of our events with the same spirit as one of the greatest golfers of all time. Of course, the choice was obvious… Tiger Woods has been the most dominant player for most of our lives, much like Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, and Wayne Gretzky, just to name a few. For most, if not all, golfers, Tiger Woods embodies the kind of player we strive to be

MATT IS THE NEW KING OF CLUBS
As usual, EJ and I get to the golf course early. We want to make sure there are no surprises at the golf course due to the rain that has already fallen and the rain that is yet to come. When we talk to the guy behind the counter, he seems unconcerned about the weather or our questions, It was cloudy and chilly as we waited for 8:30 to get here before we got out of the warmth of our cars. James arrives and almost immediately texts what we were probably all thinking, “Some
